WORST save system I've ever seen!

I've now overwritten each of my main characters' saves at least once now. The latest sent me back past my completion of the DB questline and the latest Thieves Guild quest. I am so pissed. I just started a new game and somehow when I quicksaved on that character it overwrote my other quicksaves! What the hell is wrong with Bethesda? They make this awesome game and they can't even organize save files by character?! I am so pissed.

um, you really shouldn't use quick-save to really save your character. It's mostly used to quick-load whenever you die or something. But I do agree. Bethesda didn't even bother fixing annoyingly inefficient save system. Just remember to save instead of quick-save whenever you're switching between characters.

Yeah, its definitely a pain in the ass. With all the updates/improvements they've made I was not expecting a lack of multi-save support.

I don't see the problem with the saving? I'm careful when I save and never quick-save. Its not like it takes a massive amount of time.

It's not a massive amount of time, no. But the fact that there is even a possibility that you can save one file over another is unintuitive and so incredibly dated. Games have had organized save files for quite some time now.

Maybe i'm just used to it because this is the same save system Bethesda has always implemented. But yea you definitely need AT LEAST one manual save whenever you switch from one character to another. I think the one thing that frustrates me with this installment is the lack of ability (on consoles at least) to rename your save files. Can be a little confusing at times. Seriously though....if you know that the save system is finicky, that's probably something you should be prepared and compensate for.

Since the game is rated 'M' for mature, which are folks 17 and older, maybe Bethesda expects us to be competent human beings and pay attention to what we are doing. I have yet to have this problem and have 3 characters on my 360.

Paying attention and reading skills FTW.

They could have done like Bioware has done with there games. Each Character gets there own save file which then all the saves from THAT specific Character is stored.
I can't see any negative effects from that at least.

I agree and wish it was something they had decided to mirror, but I'm not going to say that Bethesda is doing anything wrong because they didn't. AT LEAST YOU CAN HAVE MORE THAN ONE CHARACTER!

It's the game designers job to keep up with improvements in the industry, not the gamer's job to "get over it".

They could implemented something different, but they didn't. The current save feature is fine and perfectly operable. There is no issue as long as you pay attention to what your doing and make sure when you finish with your character and switch to another, you make a proper save.

I've had no issue what so ever and I've had over 400 saves on two accounts. Just make sure your slow in saving & there shouldn't be a problem.

On the other hand, yes, there are better saving systems out there but we make do with what we have. I would of preferred a saving system for each made character, but I would assume a game on this scale, the last thing they would of been contemplating would of been the save system.

What improvements? Red Dead Redemption had a similar save feature to Skyrim. There was an Auto Save as well as multiple slots that you could either fill up with multiple manual saves of one game, or load them up with a new game. You had to play attention to what you were doing.

Many RDR fans had many single player games saved, for different difficultly levels and whatnot. Guess what, people did the same thing, accidently saving over another file.

Bottom line, don't blame a game designer for your lack of attention. Or stick to one character if you are in fear of saving over it. If you are going to have many characters, be aware that you need a manual save for each one. It's not rocket science.

It is far more logical to make games with optimal (current) systems in place than to fail to do so and then blame the customer when they tell you it is less optimal than other current systems that are in place in several games. I'm not sure why you're defending Bethesda so adamantly. This was a failure on their part, even if it's not a very big one. The game is great, but they failed to update their saves system. It is never a good philosophy to tell customers to "deal with it" when you do something worse than someone else does it.

I'm not defending them, I'm merely pointing out your laziness/stupidity.

If anyone is doing something better than everyone else, its Bethesda.

the save system is functional but it could be designed to be more efficient so that this kind of mistake is less likely to happen... I really hate having a long linear stack of save files and that problem can be fixed very easily... but the save function works fine as it is. It's not broken or anything and they got bigger things to worry about...

For the consoles, you can always get a standard flashdrive and put a character file on it that you don't intend to use for while. Not only does this help prevent from saving over the file, but it's a nice way to back things up just in case your console takes a dump.
