Was this choice good or was it evil.

Well, it sounds like a tremendous burden to carry this wicked daedric artifact for which you had to stain your lily white soul to obtain.

I think your penance should be thus: use it to save the world by killing the World Eater with it (because killing big flappy flying things with a dagger is fun!) and then, assuming you can drop items there (I've never tried), drop the razor in Sovngarde.

When u said that precious part that was some funny pl***:). I know the lore of the razor that's why I went and got it, to protect it from people like the mythic dawn guy, if he didn't get it someone else would have. If good people do evil against evil people/entitys, does that make them evil? sometimes to find the cure you have to use the disease. Oh Shadow King isn't a benevolent name:) a name can mean any thing but really what is in a name, is it not by our actions that define us.
Well, that's the Rationale, init? "I'm not bad, I only take sadistic pleasure in killing, Evil, and maybe torturing them a little." But that's not what you did, you served a Daedric Prince. Make no mistake, whatever the Character thought he was doing (and therefore, your delusion was In Character, extra points for Role Playing!) it was all according to Mehrunes' plan. Sure, somebody Could have gone, and collected all the peices, then gone through the quest instead of you (If there were another Dovakiin around to do it,) but now, you've gone, and saved them the trouble. It's as simple as Waterbreathing, way to fix it, hero.

We are merely specks of matter on a speck of dust within a cloud of fire and dust. That makes up this almost timeless storm of what we perceive to be the universe. All life is just a chemical reaction with every thought and dream merely energy inprinted in a chemical. The prospective of a human and insect or the same, akin to that of a star and a tiny spark will always be the same. You think two dimensional while I think spherical. Good and evil is such a very infantile veiw of this universe. A billion simultaneously deaths and a glass of water being poured out our so very alike, wouldn't you agree...

Great. A depressing nihilist. :(

Really. You're kinda bringing me down here. And don't go all, 'The truth hurts doesn't it? Life is meaningless we should all slit ourselves whahahahaha!!!!!'. Just...no.

I think that's the point Psiberzerker is trying to make, bud. Actions define you IRL and in-game. In-game you did the bidding of a Daedric Prince, which is an inherently "bad" act. Bad act = innocence lost/no longer a truly "good" character. The purity of it is gone. At best, you've stepped into a moral gray area, which I would compare to Robin Hood. Sure, Robin helps the poor, but he still has to steal (which is wrong) in order to do so.

Hmm Robin hood I dont view his theft as a crime(I know it is a crime), but u are right a law is a law it cant be broken to suit certain needs, but I do find it hard to see my build as doing something bad because he done it for a noble reason, but saying that by even speaking to Dagon I have tainted my build's purity a bit, sometimes people can commit crimes to do good but its still a crime. (this is how I will think of it perhaps):)

Your build needs to get laid.:D

At the end of the day, it's YOUR build, and you really can do anything you want with it. You can either rationalize it as you see fit, or take some of the advice offered here... we'll never know. ;) However I would recommend at least taking the advice you received into consideration for future builds.

Who on these forums doesn't need to get laid? ;) :P

Indeed. No unmodded sex in Skyrim. Poor deprived builds. Even the modded sex (and I had to try it because I am like so dumb curious like that) was, well, it was low-grade jerky animations with very odd collision recognition. Actually that might describe my real life.... oh nevermind. TMI.

I think he's trying to take in consideration the Morality of his RP character.

Determining if a person is morally wrong in a situation can be broken down into Act, Purpose, and Circumstance.

Usually if 2 of the 3 are considered "good" then it is morally good. However in some cases the purpose alone can rule out a bad act and a bad circumstance and make the overall situation good. Especially since his character has a healthy conscience, which means he has an understanding of right and wrong and knows about consequences. It is clear that he looks to make the best possible decision in terms of good in any situation.

His Act is to do the bidding of a Daedric Prince, which is of course considered bad.

However, the Purpose of him doing so is to take any Daedric artifacts and hide them in order for them to not be used against other people. This can be considered good.

He didn't seem to mention what the circumstance, but based on my above explanation it can be decided that he is morally good in this situation. If he had to kill somebody, it may become a bad situation, but if he killed a Daedra worshipper or something, it could remain good.

Hopefully somebody sees where I am coming from.

Those who most strongly desire to do good may well have a healthy conscience, but they also recognize how easy it is to be misled, or to mislead oneself. This is why the confessor or the confidante often plays such a big role in their lives. If it's not another human giving moral advice, it's frequently sought through prolonged periods of prayer and/or meditation. One thing is sure, if you wish to be truly good, it's not easy, and your initial instincts may well lead you down the broad path to darkness. Hence this thread. The character recognizes the need.

Yes! Socialization and Indoctrination play key roles in a person's conscience and morality. I argue more-so than any religion or Natural Law.

One may have been brought up a certain way and as a result have a skewed or mislead conscience, others may have been forced or encouraged to believe or make decisions a certain way.

I hate to bring Nazi Germany up, but it's the most solid example.

The Nazi Propaganda posters that were spread all throughout Germany in the 30's that read how pure and great Germans are and how dirty and terrible Jews were led many German citizens to be almost forced to believe that Jews were a terrible race and that it would be a good thing to get rid of them.

Great post, Moris. Moral Theology is kind of interesting.

I take exception at "daedric prince=evil." Is Meridia evil? Is Azura? Sure, Mehrunes Dagon definitely is, but don't be slapping "evil" on every daedric prince.

And I really hope you've switched your stash to Retro Labyrinthian. Random chests around the world are likely to get looted by somebody else. What do you think happens when you roll back in to find the contents have changed? Those items just disappeared?

I didn't mean to slap it on all, I was just referring to Mehrunes Dagon, because that's the Prince we are dealing with. I was responding to somebodies post because they referred Dagon as Daedric Prince, I was just continuing on with the pattern.
