Morthal

Daelon DuLac

How do you backstab a Dragon?
Is it my imagination, or is Morthal one of the most boring places in all of Skyrim.

Firstly: There's really nothing there except a surly general store that generally doesn't have anything of any use, a saw mill and an apothacist that you have to steal for in order to make happy and is then not even suitably grateful (of course, if you need deathbells you should be able to go to her and get them, but, since she apparently never leaves her store, it's just easier to pick any of the hundreds in the swamp next door).
Secondly: The Laid to Rest Quest is just plain dumb and not really something that gets you anything of value (unless of course you like that kind of thing).
Thirdly: Although the steward is pretty cool, does it strike you that the Jarl simply isn't paying much attention and has one super surley bodyguard? Plus it's ridiculously easy to become one of her thanes.

On a side note: for you folks that are looking for lusty barwench clothes, be sure to get some from Alva at the end of the Quest. They are cute, although they look pretty silly on a male character!

You can have the best location for a house after becoming a Thane there. Granted its bull I get a trespass crime in my list so I never do that quest. (I can't commit crime in skyrim. I don't know why.) So I go with Dawnstar, even if its in a weird area

I guessing that that is in heartfire? They don't even make the offer in vanilla. I kind of like Falkreath though. Every morning I can go out and fight a dragon in the town square! So much fun. It's funny, but I always get dragons in Dawnstar, the Mage's College/Winterfell (?) and Riverwood as well, but I find the ones in Falkreath the most fun. Maybe because there is a town square like area. The guards and townspeople are useless, but, hey, at least the dragons seem happy to see me and they don't sit on rooftops or fly away at the drop of a hat.

Yeah, sorry I tend to forget it was part of the DLC

Morthal is so boring that the guard next to the Jarl's house spends most of this time watching the chickens. :D

I don't much like "Laid to Rest", either, because I hate vampires.
Hjaalmarch in general is my least favourite Hold, and it certainly doesn't help that its "capital" is such a miserable little village.

Of course one thing that I do love about Morthal is that, every time one of the guards tries to arrest me on something stupid, a dragon swoops down and all the guards get distracted and completely forget about it until I come to town next. On the other hand, I persuade my way out of it every time too.

I love Morthal. Its setup as the a classic vampire town in Transylvania, etc... My vampire characters always setup residence there and enjoy chatting with Alva about the sheep. Mind you, she doesn't have to much to say thou, but still its a nice response. I never do the laid to rest quest.

If Alva wasn't a vampire, I'd certainly want to marry her. She's gorgeous, has a great voice and is a total player! Too bad she's dead in my game. Oh well, that's what you get for trying to get me killed.

There's no general merchant in Morthal, which makes it pretty hard to sell things there. That beings said, I actually do like the town, with it being this tiny, depressing little community on the edge of a frozen salt marsh where it's foggy and sleets all the time. It is unique among communities within the entire game series; kind of like the Megaton of the Elder Scrolls.

You are right. It is a depressing little burb. I do, however, like the alchemy shop. She's nice. I also like the Steward. Very straight forward. The populace isn't bad, there just isn't a lot to do there. Of course, if you need alchemy ingredients, the swamp is a great place to look.

Morthal is depressing 100% for me. The only reason I became a Thane there was for the house and I do like the house just for the fish hatchery which helps me a lot with my alchemy ingredients, other than that, I don’t like it. I did Laid to Rest to kill the freaking vamps that I hate so much. I also don’t like Falkreath. Both in my opinion, are vamps town.
I do prefer Dawnstar in that case and I do love my house in that hold, surrounded by snow, pines, deer and you when the night is clear, it is so beautiful the landscape around the house.
From enemies standpoint, I do have more time to react when approaching my house in Dawnstar than the others and I do love that, it is like a natural defense around the house, so they can not hide in the bush but to attack wide open and I do have plenty of room to move, target and attack. Too bad this house in Dawnstar does not have a river close by or kind of a lake or pond. Just my 2 cents ... ;)

I like the bard in Morthal. He should go on X-Factor! He'd totally win, right?! ;)
There's a Bard in Morthal? Sorry, I was distracted by the whinning of the bar keep. I didn't even notice. Of course, that explains why some guy kept mentioning my belonging to the Bards College while I was talking to her...

Yes, an Orc bard! His singing is.... pretty terribad. At least, I think he's in Morthal... :b

You got a house? Must be a DLC cause they never even offered me one. Maybe I should talk to the steward.

Yeah bro, you get it. You need to talk to the inn owner and she will tell you about the burned house; then you will talk to the Jarl and she will ask you to investigate. You follow the quest and when you are done with killing the vamps in the cave close to Morthal, the Jarl will grant you to buy a house. Now, to become a Thane and get your follower whom can become your steward in that house, you ask the Jarl what else does she need and ask you to do something for her people. You need to do 3 small quest : I invested in my apothecary ( 1 ); I helped the woman to delivery a letter to a priest in Whiterun ( 2 ) and by killing the vamp in the cave, will grant you the other help that you need to become a thane. Voila !!
Then start to build your house and don’t forget to invite me to a cup of tea ... lol .... :)

I'm already Thane, and have done the quest and killed the vampires, but I don't remember the Jarl mentioning it. I'll have to check again. I could have just missed it. I'll talk to the steward.

A real downside to Morthal is that your bard, the one for your Hearthfire house, is absolutely the worst in the game. Yee-ouch she's bad.
