It's been a while since I've done the whole Dark Brotherhood quest, but I do remember Shadowmere staying with me after I killed Cicero.
I'm sure he'll still be around even if you decide to take out the rest of the Brotherhood, if you're referring to the Dawnstar Sanctuary members.

Like the others before me have already mentioned, there are some food items that are quite useful, especially at lower levels. I have a melee character that eats vegetable soup like it's going out of style.

I agree with elias; breaking into their abode late at night when everyone's asleep, and then slitting their throats while they dream of sweetrolls is how I would do it.
Just make sure the guards don't see you breaking and entering (or leaving) and you should be fine. Shouldn't be a problem...
I don't currently have any non-human followers with any of my characters (usually because they always get in the way and end up dead), but if I could have one it would definitely be a viscious attack-skeever.
And as far as names go, I might call him 'Fluffer' for lack of anything better.
I don't really understand what all the fuss is with Morokei. He's actually not such a bad guy after you sit down, have a cup of tea, and chit-chat about the weather for a bit with him. :rolleyes:
Here's a couple of tactics I like to use for melee characters: I generally always play dual-wielding, light armor wearing melee characters. By using dual wield you have the option to be both defensive and offensive at the same time. Some enemies you can mow down in a quick flurry of weapon...
