CQC can work with sneak, but can be really difficult against multiple targets. It's generally recommended that you lure one away at a time to take care of them. You can shoot an arrow against a wall and they will walk over, look at it, then start to walk away. When their back is turned, take em...
Made iron daggers while leveling smithing
Enchanted those daggers with banish while leveling enchanting
Now I have about 120k gold and 100 skill in both smithing and enchanting
There is also a Daedra heart in Kodlak's room in Jorrvaskr. You can steal it before you are the Harbinger, or take it once you become Harbinger. It respawns every few in-game days.
The best equipment (without using exploits) is crafted armor/weapons using all 3 trade skills. Although by using only smithing and enchanting, your gear will still make you nigh invincible. I have generally ignored alchemy (except for making my own invisibility pots).
1) Get your smithing to...
There are many quests that "unlock" the orc strongholds. NONE of them are working for me. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and was able to resolve it.
I can have the conversation about the Forgemaster's Fingers at the holds, but the quest never starts in my journal.
I did another quest to gain trust (retrieve a book for the Marcarth smith) but when I finished, she never offered to spread word to the orcs and she still says "Trust like that...
Smithing/Enchanting broke my character again - so I opted for the best looking gear, screw the enchants.
I'm wearing full Nightingale with Ebony Bow and Dagger. There are no enchants on the weapons (although they were both improved significantly using +smithing gear and pots). I did make...
The 100 gold a day was nice until I hit 100,000 and have all the equipment I will ever need. Now the only things I buy are potions and maybe ebony arrows when I see them.
The biggest problem I have with the leveling system is that there are plenty of non-combat skills you can level that will increase enemy difficulty while not providing you the skills needed to defeat them.
So when leveling my thief - all the skill raises I got in sneak, pickpocketing...
Of course, Whiterun on my first play-through.
On my second time around, I decided to take up residence in Riften. It's close to my Guild. It has an alchemy table as well as an enchanting table (AND a tanning rack on the deck). The room downstairs is nice for Iona.
I wish there were more...
You need 168 effective smithing to get your Nightingale armor to "Legendary". So 100 Smithing, + 22% bracers, +12% amulet + 40% blacksmith pot should get you there.
There is a lot to be said for up close and personal. I love the dagger assassination animation.
But hitting someone with an arrow from a mile away has a certain satisfaction too.
A lot depends on the situation. In their home - slit their throat. In a crowded marketplace - arrow from nowhere.
Well, I did it again. I broke my character with smithing and enchanting. I cannot let go of my MMO mentality where I need the absolute best gear available. And this time I didn't even really focus on the ABSOLUTE best gear - I wanted the gear that LOOKED the best, while still being extremely...
