Blood on the ice glitch Help please

Hey everyone
I am new to this forum so I want to tell you all I am an old lady that loves Skyrim...lol
I play it on my Xbox 360 and I have searched the net for the answer to this question with no luck, so I am hoping you all may be able to shed some light on it for me.
I remember when I first started playing, or earlier in my game, I started the blood on the ice quest.....I got as far as being told I could investigate.....I then got distracted and went off onto other quests.
I am now finding myself back in Windhelm and the quest is completely gone.
It is not in my to do list and it is not in my completed quest list.....
Has this happened to anyone else and is there anyway to get it back?

It sounds like a bug. As much as I hate to say it, you might have to load an earlier save. Other than that, I think the quest is gone for good.

I had a diffrent problem for the PC that I talked to jorleif then I cant examine the crime scene... tried reloading but the quest just stops for me... those poor people of windhelm... I cant catch there murder because the games glitchy.

I ended up starting a new game
I kept my other game because I am level 40 and did not want to completed lose my storyline there. I had started the game following the imperials out of Helgen and pretty much been doing every quest good or evil.
My new game I am only level 12 but i followed the Stormcloaks out of Helgen and am trying to stay good.
I have a hard time not helping everyone....
I am sure this means I will have many bounties places upon me already had one by a Windhelm guard saying I was a thief and needed to be taught a lesson
