Ok, basically i'm only a level 6 Nord and i'm stuck on diplomatic immunity. I favour 2 handed weapons ie. warhammers and a friend of mine played my game and gave Malborn a mace and my armour and then saved. I basically only levelled up 2 handed skills so my one handed ability isn't great. I've made it as far as Elenwen's Solar and just get killed by the 4 guards/enemies i'm faced with as soon as i enter. Is there any way to restart a quest because i've failed repeatedly for 2 days straight.

Short answer is "no", you cannot restart a quest. BUT, quickest solution is to switch the difficulty level to "Novice". you can switch this back and forth as much as you want. I play on Adept, but have found the need to drop it down to "Apprentice" every now and then.
Get in the habit of saving often, creating a new save file before you begin a quest -- that way if you screw it up, accidently kill your follower, or otherwise mess up the quest you can always re-load from the beginning.
My suggestion would be to postpone the Main Quests til you've had a chance to level up higher. Go do the Companions quests, Thieves Guild, Winterhold, Civil War, explore explore explore! Get your primary abilities ranked in the 40's - 60's before tackling the Main Quest again.
