Quest Nattlebane quest issue

I've tried several times to kill the mage on top of the large rock, but I keep getting blasted with the fireball spell. I did get closer to killing him/her once but they hid behind a rock and healed right up.

I am only level 18 which may be the issue. Does anyone have tips on how to kill the mage?

Try sniping her with a bow, or if you are a tank use Ethereal to get close enough to unleash your attack. Also a companion can't hurt.

Can you tell us more about the character you're using in this combat? What shouts do you have? Skills? Weapons/armor? What race is the character?

If we know those things, we may be able to give specific advice tailored to your situation.

Thanks guys. I have tried my bow (even with poison on it) and I have Lydia with me too.
My character is a Wood Elf and for armor I have Studded for the check, a +25% archery damage bracers, Steel boots and a Steel Helmet.
My bow is a +5 Bow of Frost and I did add some very weak enchantments to all the armor except the bracers. My sword is a +5 damage sword of frost but I haven't gotten anywhere near close enough to use it. I tried to run counter-clockwise around the large rock to get up there but half way around the fireballs just rained down on me.
My shouts are the initial one you get (unrelenting force?) and the one that lets you sprint really fast. I tried the first one but it didn't seem to have the range to get there. I'm not even sure what that shout does yet though.

Done deal. Me and Lydia just charged across the fallen tree and started hacking and using a shock spell.
I almost died twice and used up all of my health potions and I kept Lydia alive to boot.
