I went to jail?

During a routine "heist job" as I am a member of the thieves guild, I was sent to steal a circlet from a shop keeper, easy enough and I picked the lock easily. I went to go return it to vex, and she said I had failed because I was caught and that I had spent time in the local jail... but here's the kicker, no one saw me, nor did I spend time in jail. More strange things that may also be related, I noticed sometimes when I am in someones house I will try to sleep but I can't because it says "You can't sleep while being asked to leave" when no one had asked me to leave.

Fair enough, but what about Vex saying I went to jail??? I didn't, no one even saw me.

Yes. I got that same excuse for non-payment after nicking a circlet from Maramal in the Temple of Mara. He didn't spot me - no-one did, and there was no gaurd troubles at all.
However, I was told I'd get nothing because I got caught and ended up in jail.

Tight Theives Guild. Even fleecing their own kind. No more will I allow a theif to live after a robbery attempt on the road. Nah, they're deaded.

Yeah, they are annoying. They just lounge around doing nothing while we go out risking our lives for them to through $750 our way here and there. I have around $250,000. I just want the famous skeleton key and then be able to destroy the whole guild and become Jarl as a reward.

I'm with Stormbringer and Nakatsu. Vex just needs a good ol' fashioned ass-kicking. Even after becoming the Guild Master she still disrespects me. I should sic my wife, Mjoll the Lionness, on her. No weapons, just their fists of furious anger. Yeah, I'd have a ring-side seat, with my stale bread, cheese wheel, and a few bottles of mead. That'll do. Go honey! Kick her sorry butt into next Tuesday!

The only one getting an ass kicking in that scenario would be you after Mjoll finds out you're the Guildmaster. Knowing Vex she'll offer to hold you down.

Failsauce? Love it! Too true about that scenario, Dagmar. Obviously, my duties as Guild Master has clouded my judgment and skewed my vision of any ass-kicking, especially my own.
