Imperials or Stormcloaks, what one?

I try often to make a profile with the intention of siding with the Stormcloaks, but find that generally, the Stormcloak supporters are extremists and prejudiced against other races that aren't Nord. For those reasons, I always end up siding with the Empire. I actually agree with a lot of the Stormcloak mentality, as far as religious freedom and bowing down to oppression are concerned, but I disagree with how the supporters feel.

The original Dominion was more powerful than the present Dominion, so we can not consider them equals.
I can't find anything that indicates either was more powerful than the other. The Second Aldmeri Dominion controls more territory than the First (Elsweyr was an ally to the First but not a part of it.) Apparently the First Aldmeri Dominion's offensives were easily repelled by the Imperial Legion under Tiber Septim. The Imperial Legionnaires nicknamed them "Old Mary" for what the 1st Edition of the Pocket Guide to the Empire describes as "the womanly offensives of its Elven soldiers".

I joined the Stormcloaks because, well it seemed obvious. The Imperials tried to decapitate me 5 minutes into the game, why would I ever join them?

Later I kept playing, much after I joined the Stormcloaks (I'm a Nord male btw). I met characters on both sides. All the Stormcloaks seemed friendly, and I never actually saw signs of reprehensible behaviour on their side - sure, some shopkeeper at Whiterun I think complained about Stormcloaks making a mess, but that's hardly a table-turning political statement. On the other hand, I met a lot of Imperials forcing prisioners to march through the snow, and it gave me some pleasure to free them. Never saw anything like that with the Stormcloaks.

The main reasons for joining the Imperials seem to be "they're just keeping peace to later fight the Thalmor" and "Ulfric is an ass". First of all yes, Ulfric is an ass, and a slightly racist one. That doesn't make the Stormcloaks any worse and much less makes the Imperials any better. As for the Imperials needing peace, maybe considering allying with the Nord to fight the Thalmor?

Not at all.. the empire has a responsibility to make sure there officers play by the rules, Black people don't have a responsibility for each-others actions.. Furthermore I don't beleive that any right minded stormcloak follower did that for revenge.. try thinking of it this way, If thalmor are like nazis and kidnap people based on their religion. Then any government that allows does not protect their people and is therefore needs to be removed. If you think the empire protects skyrim i think talos worshipers beg to differ. Ulfric is not racist especially if a nonnord helps him reclaim skyrim. Also the height of racism in skyrim is a drunk civilian verbally asaulting a dark elf than it is about as racist as america is right now.
Those Talos worshippers are still alive and free. They should be grateful the Empire put up enough of a fight that the Dominion ends things with 'all right, that's enough. Just give us a bit of land and keep your people from worshiping Talos, and we'll call it even for now'. And did any of these people realize that a government can't really stop someone from believing? The Empire made and empty promise, and Ulfrics actions in Markrath forced their hand. As for racism, how many times do we have to go through this? Dunmer in the slums, Agronoians barred from the city gates, Kahjiit traders not allowed to trade in cities. All of this could go away if the natives were a bit nicer. Just ask Brunwulf Free-Winter.

The Argonians get to work at the port instead of being kicked out, the Dunmer get to live and work in the city, and in other cities both races not only co-exist with Nords, in some cases they hold very respectable positions (that Dunmer working the Black-Briar Meadery). As for the Kahjiit, they are allowed to trade, just not inside cities. Not ideal, but far from horrible as well.
The Talos ban was an empty promise? They removed the Talos shrine from the Temple of the Divines, I think that's a clear sign of authority.

its Nazis or KKK no clear choice.. sure the Nazis might take some of the KKK if they win but Nazis can do much more damage than an angry cult.. Is it better for groups of Refugees and Argonians to be treated like animals or should we turn the Thalmor to let them put everyone equal or dead and tortured?

...If you think the empire protects skyrim i think talos worshipers beg to differ...
You can think whatever you want but roughly half of them in Skyrim would disagree with you.
..Ulfric is not racist especially if a nonnord helps him reclaim skyrim...
Ulfric is the chief enforcer of the law of Windhelm that restricts residence of the Dunmer to the Gray Quarter which is a form of insitutionalized racial segregation. As Jarl of Windhelm and East March he could rescind that law with a single edict yet he chooses to maintain and enforce it instead and has done so since the day he inherited the throne of East March from his father. If you don't think those kinds of actions are the actions of a racist then you don't have a firm grasp of what racism is. The only non-Nord that helps Ulfric is your character if you choose to join the Stormcloaks which fails to refute his racist actions, and you're not helping him "reclaim" Skyrim. That kind of statement presumes that Skyrim was taken from him and/or the Stormcloaks which isn't possible because, among other things, Skyrim has been part of the Empire for well over half a millenium.
...it is about as racist as america is right now.
No it is as racist as southern United States was circa the early 20th century. If that's acceptable to you so be it but it doesn't change the fact that it's racist.

Care to rephrase this so it's coherent and qualifies as actual English? Because otherwise it's just gibberish.

The Dunmer are literally by law not allowed to move out of the Grey Quarter, and when was the last time you've been to the docks? Those Argonians work all day, and then they sleep. Also, during a quest for the East Empire company, you find a logbook that says the Argonians are pimped Skooma and denied meals for 'laziness'.

I personally believe that the Empire is a relic of the past, and even if it reclaims skyrim, will fall sooner or later, like it's real world counterpart.

Real World Roman Empire-Had its golden age when it started and even some during its time, but at some point the empire collapsed.

Tamrielic Empire-the Septim Dynasty was the golden age of the empire, perhaps it is time for a collapse?

Here's a third option. How about everyone fights the Thalmor together? They have to realize that group will make everyone suffer.

which half.. the dead ones? or the Tortured ones? One cannot be a Talos worshipper if they think that the empire did there job.. Thats almost like saying there is a jew who thinks the holocaust was necasary.. If they do than theyll end up dead inevitalably..

I help him reclaim it for the nords because another countries laws are being inforced on their soil.. Ulfric may be racist but so was George Washington (just saying)

Keep in mind this game is socially the middle ages.. For a town in the middle ages Windhelm is pretty tolerant.. aslo keep in mind that other parts of skyrim dont become racist if they are conquered by stormcloaks so if all of skyrim is Stormcloak than officially only the upperclass of one city in one hold is racist.. keep in mind in the early 20th century there was a little more than designated living places that made america racist.. The amount of racists present in an all Stormcloak skyrim is about equal to the percent of americans racist, beleive me, some americans are still racist

The problem with that is that the aldmeri dominion could crush the empire, if SKyrim is independent than those damn elves have no easy way to take skyrim and the empire would have to wait a while for the empire to build enough strenght to conquer the Thalmor, when that happens i am sure skyrim will rejoin the empire.

It's posts like this that make me want to get back into this debate.

I said it once i will say it again, maybe the empire is overdue for a collapse, like its real world counterpart.

>Implying the Empire isn't the single greatest thing to happen to Tamriel in millennia.
>Implying any injustices and prejudices held by the Empire hold a candle to the Romans.

The ones that fight for or support the Imperial Legion. In case its escaped you the conflict is a civil war and there are just as many Nords that support and fight for the Empire as there are that support or fight for the Stormcloaks. Almost all Nords worship Talos and never stopped worshipping Talos after the signing of the White-Gold Concordat. You have to be blind to not see that's what's going on in the game.

Except it's absolutely nothing like saying that, which is why they won't end up dead "inevitalably"

He's not reclaiming it for the Nords. He doesn't represent the Nords. He only represents a particular faction of Nords. The laws of the Empire are the laws of Skyrim. Claiming to the contrary is akin to claiming that the laws of the United States are not the laws of Texas.
...Ulfric may be racist...
Thanks for conceding the point and abandoning your prior erroneous assertion (just sayin').

Contextually no it isn't. It's the only city in the province that segregates populations by race. That makes it the most intolerant capital city in the land.

sometimes people need to know when they need to evolve, adapt, and survive. The Great War shows that the Thalmor were as tough if not tougher than the empire. Plus it has been said that this one is mild compared to the first, so that is actually saying something.

The fact of the matter is that the Empire has banded together cultures and races and formed a united coalition of different nations and regions. Evolution plays no part here, at all. Difference of political opinion is in no way evolution in any sense.

Tamriel is better because of the Empire, and worse without it. If the Empire falls, eventually the people of Tamriel would acclimate; sure. But only after long years of bitter strife brought on from the political fallout and economic crisis which would occur if the Empire fall.
