The best Perk

Well, it seems everbody is posting favorites threads, so I thought I'd dredge up the perennial favorite favorite. So, which perk do you like the most? I'll start:

Critical Charge

Or it's big brother, it's a guaranteed Crit, Stagger, and since you come in from out of Reach, hand weapons have no counter for it. Ok, every once in a while, a frost mage, or magic using Draugr will get off a couple lucky Ice Spikes before I start the animation, but at that point, it's over. THUNK! Even if they survive the initial strike, they're mine for whatever nasty follow-up I have planned. Ouch.

Can be comboed with Silent Roll, since you're technically Sprinting. Used to do the Critical, and Backstab damage, but I guess that was too OP, so they patched it. Just noticed today that you can do it with offhand weapons, now, so the swipe with the Blades Sword makes it real easy to land a hit. An Assassin can go Sword/Dagger, so that you have your choice of Assassin's Blade stupid damage, or if they're too well lit/guarded or whatever you can still leap from the shadows and strike their friends before they recover.

With Windshear it just gets stupid abusive, because you start with Stagger, then stunlock them with double attacks (The Nightengale/Blade of Woe add Absorbtion effects.) 2Hed, You can land with Volendrung, and recover enough Stamina to Bash&Smash them to death. In fact, just about all my striking stunlock combos (Works just as well with Drainheart Sword&Board) pretty much depend on this opener to start it with stagger. This it how I can win on Master without using Smithing, nor even Armor (Except possibly a shield, doesn't work with Shield Charge, nor do you need it to.) it just takes longer.

I've used Great Critical Charge on my Barbarian character, and it is really a good choice of a perk compared to the other one (Devastating Blow), where you have a move that finishes a battle before it starts, vs. one where you have to be in the middle of it. I tend to prefer the skirmisher play-style, constantly moving in an attempt of avoiding damage (which isn't always successful), so it is a seemingly logical choice. But, I haven't used it with One-Handed, so I wondering how similar could they be?

Identical in practice, other than the weapon you do it with. I forget which one works with the Ebony Blade this patch, other than that... What's your favorite Perk?

Savage Strike/Devastating Blow aren't the best perk, but it's probably my favorite. When you're fighting a tough opponent and you're crowned victorious by decapitation...I mean, it's really awesome.

Okay, so Savage Strike/Devastating Blow is suitable for tank-style characters, and Critical Charge/Great Critical Charge is suitable for skirmisher-style characters. Do you agreed?

Quiet Casting and Master of the Mind are both game-changers if you use an Illusiony/Sneaky character :)

For me it's Extra Effect. Doubling my enchanting slots is a greater benefit than I get from anything else.

Eagle Eye gets an honorable mention, because it makes archery much more effective for me.

Not really, I've used CC with Heavy Armor, it still starts the fight with a dent, and makes sure you get the first shot in (Usually.) Basically, if I don't have a Ranged attack, or spell, then I'm getting this as soon as I make 50. Otherwise, the unarmored mages just fall back pelting you with Ice Spikes, and laughing at you. CC is for the beginning of the fight, Savage Strike/Devastating Blow for the end. There's no reason not to have both, but I'm getting CC first, mostly because I hate playing "Hey, get back here!" with mages.

Twin Souls (conjuration) Extra Effect (enchanting) Extra pockets (pickpocketing) Merchant (speech) Purity (alchemy).

There not the obvious choices, but trust me, they're worth it!

The first two are to me. I just earned twin Souls, them beat up my Unbound Dremora with 2 more Dremora Lords without lifting a finger. Just Wuld away to the inner ring of the roof before he's done appearing. "A challenger Appears!" in unison.

Extra Effect is just nasty if you know how to use it. A Handaxe with 2X Absorb Health? Yes please. Robes of Fortify 2 schools with 20% Magicka Regeneration, or 10% MR, and double Fortify Destruction so you only need 3 more items with 20% to make it free. A Mageslayer Ebony Bow with Absorb Magicka, and Shock. Goes right through wards, stunning them with the shatter if they survive in the first place, and leaving them to charge me with a dagger while I nock another arrow...

The other three, I don't care for. Not they way I play, but hey, it's your game! bd

Thank all mighty Talos for impact. As a destruction mage, nothing helps more than stopping the guy that's about to put an axe in your head. It stuns almost everything so I just stand there sometimes throwing dualcasted lightning bolts at people while they just stand there and take it.

For me, the best perk may well be that first (and only) one I put into restoration when I'm level 2.

But then I'm slow and clumsy on the gamepad, useless at dodging, and I'm always getting hit.

This.

I'm married and a dad, thus my gaming time is scarce. If it wasn't, though, I'd be inspired to try a build where I limit myself to only 10 or 15 perks. That would be interesting challenge to balance it out. I shall send them on a 2 week vacation, turn my phone off, and give it a try.

Thinking about it more, that's probably a better distinction between the two. I was just trying to think of a "rule of thumb" for perk selection.

I can't remember the name of it, but my friend uses a mod that stops your leveling completely whenever you click it on/off in your data menu.

He stops leveling his characters at levels 1 and 5 and 10, then plays through the entire game with that tool kit and the whole world balanced as usual.

I found level one actually hardest because most mobs were level 5's.

I think it's called "Reduced Leveling," the mod he uses. I aLso had it but lost it on a reinstall.

I feel it's all completely relative to the kind of character being played. There is no one best perk.
