Followers get stuck on geometry and it's hilarious every single time

I just watched Farkas walk directly into a rock face for thirty seconds while I'm fighting three draugr. He was RIGHT THERE. Just... committed to that rock. Eventually he clipped through it but not before I took like four hits I didn't need to take.

This happens constantly and I don't know if it's a game design thing or just my playthrough being cursed. My last character had Aela following her around Blackreach and she got lodged on a pillar so bad I had to reload. But honestly? I kind of love it. Makes the followers feel less like perfect little AI and more like actual people who are just... bad at navigating sometimes.

Does this happen to everyone or am I just unlucky. Playing on Switch if that matters.

Yeah this is just Skyrim being Skyrim. Follower pathfinding is genuinely broken in places, especially around tight geometry or uneven terrain. Switch or PC doesn't really matter - it's baked into the engine. Blackreach is particularly bad because of all those pillars and the weird vertical space.

Farkas is especially prone to it because he's a big dude with a wider collision box, so he clips on stuff that a smaller character would slip past. I've had him get stuck on doorframes in dungeons more times than I can count. Aela at least tries to use her bow from range but yeah, she'll still bonk into architecture constantly.

The funny part is that reloading doesn't always help - sometimes you have to physically move them with a spell or shove them yourself. I usually just fast travel or wait it out. It's annoying in combat but you're right that it's kind of endearing? Beats the old Oblivion AI where they'd just stand there doing nothing.
