if you're able to trade with them, then you must already be blood-kin. Are you perhaps playing an orc character?! You can walk into the strongholds without being blood-kin, they're not agressive towards you unless you undertake agressive action first

actually i use both bow and dagger, but most of the time bows. (dagger is just for fun stealth killing, slitting throats and such)

are you sure it's not someone outside. Because if so it just shows a little white marker and if you've already explored allot of places it might be really hard to spot. I once assumed one of my mission didn't show up, but it was just a little white marker

I suggest trying to reload a previous save and if that doesn't work try fast travelling somewhere else wait a while and travel back. Usually something like this should be fixed like that. let me know if it worked:)
