    Regardless of your platform, an internet connection isn't completely necessary. Only if you want Updates and DLC, as JClarke1953 said. And yes, you can choose your character's gender. Among many other customizable traits.

    I generally only sleep two days, to reset shop inventories, after I bought everything that they had. Mostly alchemy shops and whatnot. I hate grinding.
