Apocalypse spells nobody talks about that completely carry a mage build

I've been replaying as a pure mage on Legendary and I finally installed Apocalypse after years of skipping it because I thought it'd just be bloat. Turns out I was dead wrong. There's this one spell - the ice one that creates a wall you can walk through but enemies can't - and it trivializes so many encounters that I'm almost embarrassed. Just spam it in a doorway and watch bandits lose their minds trying to figure out what's happening.

But that's not even the weirdest part. The spell that summons those floating rocks? I thought it'd be garbage but it staggers everything and it's absurdly efficient on magicka. I'm genuinely wondering if I've been sleeping on this mod because everyone just talks about the flashy destruction spells and nobody mentions the utility stuff that actually wins fights.

Are there other Apocalypse spells that people sleep on? I feel like I'm discovering this mod for the first time even though it's been out forever.

Yeah, the ice wall spell (Glacial Prison or whatever it's called) is legit one of the best crowd control tools in the game, period. Not just for Apocalypse - I'd argue it's stronger than most vanilla spells because it actually stops enemies instead of just hurting them. The fact that you can walk through it yourself is the real MVP part. Doorway lockdown is such a simple tactic but it works on Legendary because mages are squishy and positioning matters.

The levitation rocks thing (Telekinetic Mayhem?) is wild too. People sleep on it because it doesn't have flashy numbers, but yeah - free staggers on basically everything, costs nothing, and it lets you control the fight without blowing all your magicka on damage spells. On a pure mage run that's huge.

Honestly the mod has a ton of sleeper utility stuff. There's that one that lets you basically teleport out of danger - I forget the exact name but it's in the Alteration tree somewhere - and it trivializes a lot of "oh crap" moments where you'd normally chug potions and run. Same energy as the ice wall but for personal defense. The thing is, Apocalypse has so many spells that the flashy ones (meteor, that big explosion one, whatever) get all the hype, but the spells that actually control fights instead of just nuking things tend to be way more useful on harder difficulties.

What difficulty are you running? Legendary with pure mage is rough enough that I'm curious if you're stacking other mods too or just going vanilla+ with Apocalypse.
