I am sure a Mod will move this thread to the help section.. I am sure everyone will need more information than that..
Give us more details about your character, like:
- race
- level
- what perks have you invested (you can use the perk calculator to create a hyperlink, top of this page)
- gear you may have or use normally
- have you completed the college of winterhold

Well im a redguard level 20 I believe .. I mainly use the blade sword i think that's what its called it looks like a katana .. I've got dwarven armor.
My skills mainly go into 1 handed a couple in destructive magic an a couple in restoration an smithining... its like no matter where I go an who I fight some dragons an such kick my ass lol

I tried sword in one hand, spell in the other, never really worked for me, not while actually fighting anyway. Always found another sword was a more effective use of a hand.
If Dragons are breathing you bad, then I suppose a Shield might be in order, but I found killing them quickly was more effective than trying to defend. Maybe I am just a berserker at heart.
Destruction spells only really work well when you have 2 hands free and can dual cast, or you fire 1 really big spell, then swap to other methods while your magic recharges.
