18+ Broken Arrows

Valin Oakthorn

Vagabond Extraordinaire
Prolog
Hello, This is my first fan-fiction. I felt like writing a story that would be a long backstory of my character Valin Oakthorn. This story will go from the weeks before his birth to... I am not sure where it will end. Every moment of shooting arrows and climbing trees will be captured here.

I placed the 18+ symbol because I don't know how this story will function in that respect, but i will be sure to notify you before each chapter that contains such aspects.

To anyone who knows nothing of Valin here is his character card:

*Elderwood Bow (A bow Valin made himself from the branch of one of the oldest trees in valenwood.)
  • Battle Tactics: Valin is quick and agile, he hates fighting in a closed area such as a cave. He prefers to perch himself above in a tree or rooftop and rain arrows on his enemies as he darts from branch to branch or building to building.
When on the ground he pulls out his blade. This blade is most often wielded with two or one hand, as it is short enough for one but two heavy to perform power attacks without two. This blade however is a twin blade and can be pulled apart and dual wielded as two identical blades.
Bio
This will be discovered in the story.

So I hope you enjoy this story, and I will try to update as regularly as possible.

Chapter One
It is said that in order to reach the heart of a story, one must go back to before the beginning, miles before the starting line, to a time when the person who you so desperately wish to know about was not even a piece of the puzzle we call life. So dear reader, let us do just that and go back, three years before the birth of our friend.

It all began with the order from the first emissary, to go and secure the deepest parts of Valenwood for the Dominion, and so Lovitar Stormwatch set off from the isles to go to the mysterious and dangerous forests of valenwood. His job was to convince the uncivilized tribes of this land to side with the dominion rather than the empire. It just so happened, this would be more than a job.

A woman in this tribe by the name of Desdra Oakthorn would find her way to his heart. They fell in love, and the tribe sided with the Dominion. Soon she became pregnant, and the two elves became married. They decided that this was no place to raise children and moved to the city of Eldenroot. It was here Lovitar became a much more powerful wizard, with the abilities he was taught by the shamans there.
However, it is hard for a relationship of so different people to last, they began to fight and quarrel over the childrens place in the thalmor, and where they would live as adults. Finally, on the day Desdra gave birth to twins, Lovitar left for the isles once again. He took with him the child that showed more altmer traits, a child named Mithron Stormwatch, who would grow up to be a great agent for the thalmor, but that is a story for another time.

Without a job, a tribe, or the strength to hunt, Desdra knew no way of how to keep this child alive. Now, we know that he did survive, but it was a true miracle that he did.

Chapter 2
So Valin grew, as all of us do. As a bosmer he was trained with the bow, and how to do the daily things that bosmer do. These things however set him apart from the others. While the rest of the children learned from their fathers, Valin's father of whom he had never met was gone, and even if he was here would be useless as he was a altmer after all.
The children would mock him for his gold tinted skin and how he had to train himself in tree hopping and shooting the bow. They didn't realize, that him training himself was quite the benefit to Valin. Hunting became Valins escape from the other children, and while they fumbled around and brought home a rabbit every now and then. Valin would bring home deer and great creatures. He was the envy of the rest of them, his family never went hungry, despite the small size of two that it was.
No one ever quite knew how Valin did this, but it was a quite simple matter. The child had made a deal with a darker power, with something dangerous, with a daedra. He offered himself to Hircine, the lord of the hunt. While the rest of the children spent time worshiping the divines, Valin was offering animals to the huntsman. This deal was quick and easy, Valin would receive training with the bow from hircine, and an ability to hunt like no other, as long as, in return, he worked as a child for the huntsman and hunted in the name of Hircine.
And so, Valin grew older, and reached the age of 17, that was the year it all changed. Valin never realized what would come after that hunt, but he didn't realize, that it would save his life.

Once again, a short chapter, but its all slow build, I assure you, they'll be longer once i get into real stories, opposed to setting the scene. There should be a good one out on saturday.

Chapter 3
Patience, Valin reminded himself that acting to quickly might just spoil the hunt. Today he was taking on the most dangerous beast he had ever fought before, a werewolf. This beast had been terrorizing the village and stealing Valins prey for weeks now, and despite it being a child of Hircine, the beast needed to die.
Valin dashed from tree to tree, stalking his prey ever so silently. Finally he had lined up the perfect shot to take out the beast. He would strike it directly in the back of the head. If not a killing blow, it would still at least knock the wolf out. Valin lined up the shot, he pulled his bow back and began to release. Then suddenly, from the village, a blood curdling scream struck out into the air. At first Valin began to run to the village, but then he looked at his bow and noticed the lack of an arrow in his hand.

Turning around rapidly, Valin saw where that arrow had landed, directly in the back of the beast. Valin knew he couldn't bring the werewolf back to the village, the thick hide of the wolf had rendered the arrow worthless. Fear came over Valin as the misty blue eyes turned to him with an anger the likes only came from werecreatures.

Valin began a dash from branch to branch, tree to tree, as the monster clawed its way into a nearby tree. Valin thought he could escape, but the werewolves of valenwood are just as comfortable in the trees as every other creature in the forests. Valin climbed higher, hoping to outrun the beast, but this idea did not last. Valin took a shot at the beast, striking it in the chest, knocking it off the branch and into a clearing.

Valin climbed down and approached his new trophy, he had just killed a werewolf, this was quite the amazing feat, or so he thought. Just as Valin approached the animal, it flung itself towards him in a flurry of claws. The large paw swung straight at him, knocking his bow into a nearby tree, shattering it on impact. The claws had scratched Valin across the face, leaving three deep claw marks under his left eye.

Valin recoiled back in pain, pulling his bastard sword out from its sheath on his back. The elf gave a few strong swings with all his might, and all that did was... well.. for lack of a better word, piss off the already angry werewolf. It knocked valin down, breaking his left shoulder. The sword, now far away, was out of reach for the bosmer. Valin closed his eyes and prayed to hircine that this would not be his end.

Then, our little elvish friend, was taken to a different realm. A realm of forests and the very essence of a hunt. There stood the master huntsman, Hircine, looking down at Valin.
"What have I thought you throughout these years?" question the huntsman
"To be quick, and strong, and to never give up on a hunt" replied Valin
"Exactly, that scratch," Valin felt the bleeding wound under his eye heal and begin to burn.
"It has made you more than you once were. You are moon-born now." explained the hunter.
Valin felt the power within him, and looked to the hunter.
"I however, feel it would be terrible to let you stay a young boy forever." laughed Hircine.
Valin began to grow now, he became taller and more muscular. He was a man now, not a child.
"Go now, and finish this creature." Hircine commanded as Valin was sent back to mundus.

His eyes shot open as the wolf stood barely feet away from him, thinking he was dead, and he had earned his meal. Valin threw himself at the beast in a roll like movement, grabbing a knife, ironically with a wolf head on the hilt, from his boot and thrusting himself with the knife at the werewolves heart, killing the beast, once and for all.

Valin threw the beast over his shoulders easily, with a strength he had never known before. He made his way back to the village, to discover what that scream that nearly killed him had been about.

Chapter 4
Approaching the village, Valin was stunned, terrified, and worried. The whole forest was on fire. The village in the trees he had come to love oh so much now burned to ashes in front of him. His new trophy fell to the ground as he took off towards an obvious death. The flames around him burned and burned with the destruction only caused by that of magic. Bodies were lying around, people he had once never given much thought now brought tears to his eyes. He reached the steps to his house and threw open the door.

Inside there was nothing but flames and the soft crying of a bosmeri woman.
"Mother!" Valin screamed, with no return.
He scoured through the house until he found her, lying there with a fallen support beam crushing her. He had to save her, it was no option. He eyes lifted open ever so slightly as he struggled to pull the beam off of her, his hands burning to a crisp.
"No, you can't save me child, you must run, there is no hope left for me." She struggled to say.
"I can save you, Ma, I can save you!" Valin cried, tears pouring down his face.
"No!" She yelled with all her remaining life "You must leave, I love you, Valin" She said, he last breath leaving her body and her very life fading from Valin's eyes.
Valin stood there shocked at his now lifeless mother, determined not to let her stay like this, He pulled at the beam. His anger fueling him, it came loose, and Valin, his arms terrible burned, picked up his mother. Carrying her limp body he turned around and began to exit the house but stopped in his tracks at the sight of what stood before him.

There before him lay the initials M.S. written... in broken arrows.
