Difficulty playing pure mage?

Something I feel not many are remembering or are aware of is that mages in TES have a history as starting off weaker then at the higher levels end up being exponentially stronger than any sword swinger. I can't speak through experience with Skyrim as I have not made a pure mage yet. please correct me if I'm wrong.

Is there any quick methods for quickly leveling up your alteration?

Yes it is. Cast ironflesh, any flesh spell, in front of a enemy.
and it wont take long to get lvl90.

I changed things up a little. Started using pure Frost spells and Frost Thralls. Dual casting Ice Storm(got impact), using pots when necessary, switching to Fire when Im fighting Nords or a Frost Dragon, Enchanted a ring to give 30% extra Magicka Regen(best I could do atm), etc.

Played on Expert with almost no problem.

Pure mage calls for Alteration/Conjuration/Restoration/Destruction as your bread and butter with Enchanting.
Lord stone can also Confer some damage mitigation and survivalbility

However Destruction's downfall is, pure end game like level 50+ theres nothing to buff destruction damage outside of perks and learning the highest spells availible, so it will become a barragefest for you and your summoned/raise minions to make the beatdown.

For alteration magic? Ha!

Telekinesis works wonders for leveling alteration up if you're looking for a get to 100 quick thing.

If you're able, enchant some armor to give you 100% reduced magicka cost for alteration, then use it. I'd say within an hour you could get from 1-100.
