Ebony Warrior shows up and I'm genuinely not ready, what am I doing wrong

I'm level 81 on my current playthrough and the Ebony Warrior just spawned outside Whiterun. I thought I'd be way overpowered by now but this guy is legitimately kicking my ass. My damage output feels pathetic even with a maxed-out two-handed build and I'm burning through potions like crazy.

I've got the perks that boost damage and I'm wearing Daedric gear I crafted myself, but he's just tanking everything. Am I supposed to use a specific strategy here or is my build just fundamentally gimped? I remember hearing he scales with your level but I didn't think it would be this bad. Should I be stacking more perk points into damage or is there some cheese strat I'm missing, like using summons or something?

The Ebony Warrior is genuinely one of the toughest fights in the game, so you're not doing anything wrong - he's just designed to be a wall. At level 81 with a two-handed build you should theoretically be fine, but here's the thing: he scales perfectly with your level and he's got perks in basically every combat tree, so raw damage often isn't enough to just brute force him.

A few things that actually matter more than pure DPS. First, what's your armor rating? Daedric is solid but if you're not at cap (80%) you're going to feel every hit way harder than you should. Second, are you using any magic? Even just a basic Paralyze spell or poison can turn the fight from a war of attrition into something manageable - he's vulnerable to CC just like anything else. Summons work too but honestly they just delay the inevitable unless you're also doing damage yourself.

The real issue with pure two-handed builds against him is that he also uses two-handed weapons and he's better at it than you are. If you've got the perks like Impact or the one that staggers on power attacks, those help, but if you're just trading blows you're going to lose. Try keeping distance, let him come to you, and use power attacks to interrupt his attacks rather than just spam normal swings. Stamina management is huge here.

Also - and I hate to say it - but if you've got restoration potions or any healing spells, use them liberally. This isn't a fight where chugging potions is cheesing it, it's just how the fight works. Some people also swap to a shield and one-hander mid-fight if they're getting overwhelmed, just to get some breathing room.

What perks do you actually have in two-handed? That might help narrow down what's missing.
