Fire, frost or lightning?

Hey guys, just thought I would ask what element you prefer in destruction magic. I notice people usually tend to stick to just one and I wanna learn all the pros and cons of them all, I know fire does the most damage, frost damages stamina as well as health, and shock damages magicka as well as health. But there are other advantages and I want to know which you prefer. I'll start.
I prefer shock magic, as well it being great against other mages, its also extremely fast, reaching its target almost immediately after the spell is cast. I know it costs more magicka than fire or frost but that's a small price to pay. What do you guys think? P.S I'd like to stay on topic guys because I know most threads tend to stray, and I don't wanna know about enchanting making costs irrelevant or anything like that, just destruction magic.

I'm sticking with fire this time as I'm a spell sword and targets on fire take more damage, on my last play i focussed on shock for the reasons of speed you stated, although the range seemed a bit more limited using spells like chain lightning or lightning bolt rather than say ice spike which i found to be a pain when trying to take dragons down.

Yea I like ice spike, but its rather hard to catch a dragon with while there in flight. Fire is perfect for a spellsword but even harder to catch a dragon with. Fire is also great because you don't have to be precise with it, just fill a room with a fire ball :D

Exactly, the only problem is I keep nuking my followers at the same time, hey if you want to make an omelette you gotta break a few eggs right? :D

Haha yea true, I do that so often. But I did find a way round it. Don't have any followers, just use atronachs and undead, they get hurt too, but there already dead, right? Another way is a just give lydia a plops load of resist fire etc gear. And fire spells are not as strong on dark elfs so just get a dunmer follower, ok I'm straying off topic so I'm gonna stop now lol.

I personally prefer fire magic, i believe ice is not that effect for a lot of Npcs are nords and they can resist the frost naturally, shock is ok against mages and they are faster but the range sucks. Fire kills all The only race that naturally resist fire are the Dark elves and there aren't a lot of Dark elves in Skyrim.

Yea, a lot of things resist frost, but even so it still slows people down, which I personally think is fundamental for a mage, slowing them downt enough for another 2 or 3 spells can make a life saving difference. If only one could combine spells hmm......

Fire is good for range, but if you get the shock related perks it's cool to vaporize mofos when their health is low. Black Ice out.

No you can't stop a lvl 48 orc warrior with full ebony armor + weapons with a little lightning
With the dual-cast stagger perk, you can stop anybody not decked out in ridiculously enchanted armor.
