Spoiler Forbidden Legend Trouble

georgeleus

Frost trolls are gay.
Here I go again spreading my complaints about some quest.
It's quite akward not to find any related posts in the forum, so I had to start this thread.

It's about the Forbidden Legend Quest, especially the Amulet Forging part (the last one).

The plot can be found here .
It takes place in a crypto-lobby and I have to defeat 3 bosses.
The first one attacks along with a 5 draugr suite, let's say I take 2 Vigourous Potions and succeed.
The hard thing is the second one, he's nasty.
He clones himself in 4 samples and starts spreading arrows and shouts.
I dunno what's the business with these shouts, it's like nothing I've ever seen. I mean for me as the hero it takes a minimal of 30 seconds to recharge even the weakest shout, but the draugr bosses use them every 5 seconds. It takes only two consecutive shouts and 3 arrows for me to die (and all of these happen in about 10 seconds).

System : PS3

My stats :
Level 32
Two Handed Battleaxe (71 damage + 20 stamina damage)
Nightingale Bow (38 damage + 20 frost damage)
280 Heavy Armor
290 Life
340 Stamina (using Rahgot hood)

My complaints:
- second boss impossible to kill (can't quite reach him, the arrows and shouts are simply to strong and often)
- all the clones shout at the same time, once every 5-10 seconds.
- these arrows and shouts drain my health bar visibly and very fast (despite the amount of health and armour)
- this second boss... how am I suppose to kill him ? I managed to reach 2 or 3 clones, but eventually all 4 of them rise again with full health. Wich one should I aim ? Or should I destroy all 4 of them in the same resurrection cycle ?

Watching a very skilled player do it, it doesn't look hard at all. But what stats does he have ? I asked him in a comment to his video, but didn't reply yet.

So I'll ask you people : should I wait some more, gather another - let's say 10 levels - , 100 Vigorous Healing potions and only after should I return to Reachwater Rock ?

I sure hope to get some answers on this forum.
Thanks for your time.

Try lowering the difficulty level, or alternatively bring a good follower, such as Mjoll to help. You definitely want a good stock of healing potions, it's a big help. You also seem to have devoted a lot of points to stamina. I play a warrior and I've never put my stamina or magic above 200. Everything else I dump into health.

Try lowering the difficulty level
I could do this... momentarily I'm playing at 3 out of 5 (Adept I believe...)

or alternatively bring a good follower
Alternatively ?
You mean starting the quest with help from a different helping NPC until I succeed it ?

such as Mjoll
I didn't run into this one yet.
I used to take Utgheld The Heartbroken with me but she passed away (suspect circumstances).
I have Lydia at my disposal, but that leaves my house unguarded. If she dies too, can something happen to my goods ?
I think I can find other helping characters, I just have to take a closer look at the inns.

At the start of the quest I have about 10 of each vigorous potion. I deplete them all and still can't manage the second boss.

You also seem to have devoted a lot of points to stamina.
Well... yes. Being a two handed warrior it's a pain having to deal power attacks and even with the stamina above 300... I'm able to deal about 4 until it dries out.

That's the thing I cannot understand !
I consider to have an enormous amount of armor and health, and still, after only two shouts and a couple of arrows I'm dead !

Am I overestimating myself ?
Is this quest dedicated to those above a certain level ?

Because frankly, until now, I didn't have difficulties in any other quests what so ever.

Thanks for the answer bro !

Mjoll is marked as an essential character, and therefore cannot die. They can knock her down, but never out. this really makes her one of the best followers in the game. Nothing will happen to your stuff back home if your Housecarl leaves, so don't worry about that. As for dropping the difficulty, the game won't penalize you for this in any way, the acheivements are all the same no matter how weak or hardcore you play it.

Also, if you have enough magic, try summoning something like a flame atronach. it might not last long, but every little bit will help after all. I hope some of this helps, but if it doesn't we can try to think of something else.

In addition to the tips given above:

Use Shouts yourself, if you have any suitable ones. For example, Fire Breath is great for blasting him with, and Become Ethereal can save you from some arrow damage.

As for identifying the non-clone Sigdis, his clones will always have full health, so attack the one with depleted health. His helmet also differs from the clones' ones (I believe the clones have visible horns pointing upwards), which is a good way to distinguish him.

I just did that quest today, and my strategy was to simply charge at him with my sword and Shout. I'm on Novice, though (I know, I know )...

I use a mix of ranged attacks and patience to defeat the second boss. I stick near the entrance and use those two pillars as cover from the shouts while picking him off with either crossbow bolts or spells. Be careful to watch for either himself or his decoys to teleport nearby. If it's a decoy, knock it out of the way or if it's the real guy just wail on him for a bit but watch out for that shout. I like to fus ro dah him right back if he gets too close then just swipe at him a bit till he teleports away. I never get caught by the knockdown shouts doing things this way, but because my character doesn't focus on ranged attacks it takes him a bit of time to whittle him down.

Interesting advices.
Thank you all for your time !

@ Ritterkreuz:
I've read about Mjoll here and I'm a bit confused.
Just last evening I've visited the Bee and The Barb and besides Sapphire, I didn't find anyone else in there; or at least didn't at first glance.
I see in the wiki that Mjoll's availability depends strongly of the orientation of my character. She despises the Thieves Guild, and by default all who worship them.
Now if I've already finished all of the Guild's quests, becoming their leader (and a Nightingale), can she know that ? Maybe because of this I didn't find her at the inn ?

@ Chadonraz:
I do use the shouts myself but as I was saying, I'm very consumptive about the discrimination the game makes between the human and the NPCs. While my Force shout (3 words) recharges in at least 30 seconds (a Flame one (1 word) in about 15), the second boss's Force shout recharges in about 5 seconds. It's some pretty heavy sh!t to put up with.

@ DdraiGwyn:
I have the rose, but didn't use it even once. I left it in the chest, given the fact that I don't like magic or it's variations.
It summons a Demora if I remember... tell me this: the summoned's health and skill depends on my level of Conjuration/Magicka ? If so, imagine that I never upgraded these skills.

Anyways, given the advices written in here, I think I have a general strategy to start with.
Meanwhile I exited Reachwater Rock in search for some extra Vigurous Healing/Stamina potions, after I'll have my fill I'll return to the place and let you know how it's been.

Cheers !

I just did this quest for the first time tonight. Having conjured allies helped a lot with that boss as they took some of the arrows. And I think someone mentioned it already but his health bar stays at the same level while the clones have full health whenever they appear.

this mission was a bitch.. plain and simple, ESPECIALLY the boss fight before you get the amulet forged, the reason those draugr are able to shout so much is cause they have zero recovery time on their shouts, same with every other npc which uses them, hence why i use a mod to make my shouts have zero recovery time as well cause it evens the odds, but by no means is this fight easy even with the ability to spam shouts.. i got dropped about a dozen times before finally killing those bastards, what makes it so difficult imo is that if you're fully caught in one of their shouts its instant death, your powered up unrelenting force however is not, they will simply get back up and keep at you.. the strategy i used that finally worked was hiding in the back and repeatedly summoning dremora lords while constantly watching for shouts to dodge them and shouting myself whenever something got too close, it was a long, LONG process but it was the only strategy that worked for me.

Interesting advices.

Spoiler It's true she has a strong moral streak, but being in the Guild hasn't been a problem in the past. The key is to agree with her, then get her to tell you about losing her sword Grimsever. If you recover that for her, she will become a follower

As far as I can tell, it is always the same strength. I don't see using staffs or shouts as using magic in the standard form, so I am okay using them, even with non-magic users. Its a personal choice.

DdraigGwyn has beaten me to the punch, but I would have told you the same thing. She's usually found wondering around the market of Riften with Aerin following her around like a lost puppy (poor guy, rescues her from near death, and he's forever relegated to the dreaded "friend zone" by her).

Just retrieve her sword, Grimsever, from a Dwemer ruin. FYI, you'll pick up a ton of soul gems doing this, which is always a bonus.

With Sigdis (The Archer) you have to wound him first, then pay attention to the Health Bar at the top of the screen. The Clones spawn unwounded, and also have a different Helmet style, but that can be hard to make out in combat. It sounds like you're going with Hand Weapons? This fight is pretty much set up to confound the pure melee Warrior. Keep moving, use the Whirlwind Sprint shout to jump across gaps, and get up close, and personal with the target. You just have to kill the main one, the clones, and Draugr will dissappear, or die when he's defeated. Otherwise, I like to find a good spot to snipe from, either with a powerful Bow, or Jyrik's Staff. That one's tricky, because of his Elemental Rochambaux, but that's just what he's weak against at that moment. You can just pound him, but it may take longer, depending on your Weapon/skill. Followers, and/or Summons can really help with the Draugr, and Clones so they aren't ALL focusing on you, but you can't depend on them to hit the right one consistently. That's the trick, of course, there's only one true Gauldurson fighting at any given time, take care of them, and ignore all the distractions...

People, it is my pleasure to announce that the quest was far more easy after following your advices. And all without needing to lower the difficulty.

So, for all late Skyrim players (like me) having trouble with this mission, here's my conclusion:

If you're a pure melee fighter with absolutely no magic skills playing on the PS3, you must assure that:
- you are at least level 30.
- you have at least 250 points of heavy armour.
- you have at least 320 points of health.
- you have at least 320 points of stamina.
- you have at least 4 of each vigorous healing/stamina potions.
- you have a decent follower wich you gave a strong weapon, armour and some potions; it's perfect for distracting the enemies.
- you have the Sanguine Rose; use it every 60 seconds.
- you use shouts to counterattack the ones recieved by the bosses (although I dont't think "Marked for Death" works ok on them, they've lightened in purple but didn't seem to take damage differently).
- in Sidgis's case, you should ignore the clones and keep heading towards him (it's very easy to distinguish - by the helmet) and hit him with stamina poisoned power attacks.

It worked like a charm, the follower and Dremora took most of the shouts and left my path free to the bosses.

Thank you all for the help !

PS: I've noticed that the bosses have been defeated before their health bar reached zero, very curious...
