So I started with Nord Warrior...sword and shield. Had a blast, but than I started leveling up crafting and enchanting...and it got WAY too easy.
Started over with a thief in light armor. Didn't powerlevel crafting, but, even with decent crafted/enchatning equipment, it got WAY too easy.
I've recently started over a third time. And I know there is a hardcore playstyle here somewhere...but, I really don't want to interrupt my game play to find a place to sleep or run all over the map everytime I want to go somewhere.
So, I started a battle-mage. Atl/Conj/Rej/1-Hand/Heavy & Speech. RP'ing it that my character does not craft or enchant. So I just used equipment from quests or vendors.
I'm having a blast. Encounters are just right....if I play lazy and just run in hack n slash...I'll die. Dragons are tough, finding a new item in a treasure chest adds a level of excitement. Plus, no hoarding ingredients, having a crafting set of gear...means more time to adventure, less time pounding out daggers and leather bracers.
I strongly recommend this playstyle, with any class, to increase the difficulty without significantly changing the way you like to play the game.
