Gandalf like gameplay?

I was wonder if I should make a character with a staff and sword. Are staffs any good?

Sure they're good if you have an endless supply of soul gems to constantly keep refilling it.

You can't whack enemies with staves in this game, they're only for pointing and shooting. I always give them to my AI followers, they seem to enjoy using them more than I do.

Of course Gandalf never whacks with his staff, but uses a long sword for melee.

To be like Gandalf, you basically work on Speechcraft for 90 minutes, then converse with butterflies.

Throw in the occasional light spell and you got it!

Yea with Dragonborn you can construct your own staffs. Alll you need is black star and enchant your blade with soul trap.
