Imperials or Stormcloaks, what one?

If my recall is at all accurate, General Tullius and Legate Rikke also used to nauseate me. But it's been so long since I played, I really cannot remember.

When I was playing, I may not have felt quite this way, but in retrospect I find that most of the major players in Skyrim -- almost all of the Jarls, Esbern and Delphine, the leaders of both civil war factions -- are so terribly lacking in charisma.

Given that, at the end of the day, it matters very little which side you choose -- not much changes -- and the future is so ambiguous that you cannot make any convincing predictions about what will happen in either case -- it all comes down to personality. For me, they all stink just about equally.

Yes! But he's also the most fun toddler to play with. Rikke and Tullius are all about hierarchies and rules and yessir nossir, and Ulfric and Galmar are about kinship and brotherhood. To be sure, the Stormcloak family is severely dysfunctional. But it's personal. Some people like that, need that, especially if they lack it in their own lives. Other people prefer the impersonality of the grand ideal. They're intellectuals and better suited to slave under the cold neglect of the Imperial camps.

I haven't seen it. You are a soldier. Not a family member. You are never addressed as kin or treated as family.

I dunno, I'm always reminded of how integral and amazingly important I've been during the campaign. And there is a warm awe behind it, in my opinion. I always feel like I'm a professional, but a well respected professional. I don't need Tullius or Rikke to call me kinfolk to know that I have their respect and their backup. Overall, the Legion feels like a large family to me. Once you're in it, you're in for life. For better and worse. Ups and downs.

I can see the allure that such a thing would hold though, for those who seek out the Stormcloak side. It is a different dynamic, I'll give you that. It's most profound for other Nords though. For my Bosmer? Not so much.

The thread needs serious meta-analysis.

I am curious, myself, how our attachment-styles, and perhaps also our Myers-Briggs scores, might correlate to choice of faction. It would be interesting to get all thread participants to take a series of personality tests, and then do the multivariate regression analysis.

Me too. My scores tend to vary quite randomly.

I live with a mathematician and a social scientist. This project should be do-able. The only rub is that we'd probably get more reliable results if they could be posted anonymously. We'd need a web page that allowed logging of anonymous responses.

Of course, no one is really interested in this stuff. If I needed to do a paper for a psychology class, it might be a cool idea. But I left university over a hundred and fifty years ago.

Edit: Is no one in the forums a psych major?

I think Lincoln may have been a child when I was in uni. I did say, over a hundred and fifty years ago. I was never very good with history, though, so I can't say for sure what was going on at the time. I think, however, that it was some time between the biblical flood and the second sweep of the bubonic plague over Europe. That may or may not have been considerably more than 150 years ago.

I agree. I merely offer a way to take the 'massive circle-jerk' (as this thread has been called) and do something different with it. I also couldn't really give a fluff one way or another.
