Imperials or Stormcloaks, what one?

The Concordat was signed in 175, so that makes it twenty-six years ago from the start of this game. The Great War was fought from 171-175. By the time the Concordat was signed, it had been four to five years of bloody and very costly warfare. The Empire is indeed still trying to replenish a fighting force after the decimation suffered during that conflict.

I do have and have shown many points and facts like everyone here, of which you continue to ignore and shoot down without any solid support. I am simply saving myself a headache and moving on to other threads for now. Relax yeah?

I've addressed all of your points if I missed some please show me where and I'll try to come back at you, unless I'm agreeing with 'em.

I'm relaxed as a shaolin monk..

This is degrading from an intelligent discussion to an arguement with a bias individual.
When it comes to nogz it was never an intelligent discussion. His posts largely consist of nothing other than his mere opinions with little to no support from lore or game content (and often contradicted by them). He's failed to even bother to respond to many posts directed at him choosing instead to ignore them (probably because he doesn't have anything with which to respond) and he's ignorant about many facts related to most of the subjects upon which he's expressed an opinion in this thread or is oblivious as to their relevance.

I ignore posts that take one sentence of a post and twist it to a point where it has lost all of its meaning in the context. If you want a response from me address the points I'm making, not a single sentence. And yes, I don't know everything, I've only played Skyrim, I'm going by what information it is in the game and some of the wiki pages, I'm wrong about the lore sometimes.

If you've only played Skyrim and barely have a basic understanding of the Lore, why are you even in this thread? Well, besides looking like an idiot.

Lmao, really? I shouldn't be in this thread? Is this ES lore extravaganza thread or Empire vs Stormcloaks thread? I don't even know why I'm bothering to respond to posts like this..

If you don't know why your replying, fluffing don't.

There. Problem Solved.

No, you ignore posts when you don't have anything intelligent with which to respond. Addressing your posts by breaking them up point by point for clarity doesn't equate to twisting anything even if it's beyond your ability to comprehend that. There's zero context lost in doing so.

Like what? I can't read everything, refer me to the posts you think I'm ignoring cos I "don't have anything intelligent with which to respond"??

If you don't understand the relationship between the civil war and ES lore then you truly don't have a clue. Playing other ES games isn't even necessary to understand a lot of the lore referenced here. They are sourced directly from the game from books that you find as you travel throughout Skyrim that cover the history of Tamriel, many of which were also placed in the other ES games. Seriously, where did you think the Wiki's were getting all their information from, a magician's hat?

There's nothing wrong with participating in a thread even if you don't know the lore, but when it's explained to you it's constructive to actually acknowledge it even if it completely undermines arguments you post. Ignoring it or contradicting it afterwards only makes one look obstinate and foolish.

I do not know why I am bothering, but I personally think that this whole Civil War is more about freedom or security, as a choice of which is more important.

Your thoughts Dagmar?

Dagmar

Let's put it this way, I'm discussing the current situation, while the history of the world is important for having the full grasp of things, why should it matter that much? When I'm seeing the Dominion agents torturing and killing for no good reason and the Empire turning a blind eye, do I really need to know that much of the lore to be opposed that? Is there some lore that somehow justifies their actions? And if it happened 300 or so years ago does it really matters?? You seem to think people shouldn't discuss current situations if they don't know everything, well I'm not sure you got far enough, how about if I don't know the grandfather of the father of the developer of the first game by name and know his life story I shouldn't comment on the current political situation in Tamriel...

Like what? I can't read everything, refer me to the posts you think I'm ignoring cos I "don't have anything intelligent with which to respond"??
It's not incumbent upon me to post each one but here's one where you continued to make senseless arguments afterwards that can only be explained by completely ignoring the lore of the Elder Scrolls including the lore from Skyrim.
If the dark elves in Windhelm would have to pick their side, you know probably the side of the people that actually gave you homes and work in the first place, they wouldn't be any prejudice or "racism" towards them. When you first enter the city the 2 nords are being "racists" cos the elves wouldn't pick a side, it has nothing to do with them being dark elves. And so on. That's what I have against the Empire and why I'm choosing the Stormcloaks, it has nothing to do with the Empire trying to decapitate me. And even so, that would be a good enough reason as it is..
That's total bunk. The treatment of the Dunmer by the local Nords in Windhelm precedes the existence of the Stormcloak rebellion. It's been going on since shortly after the mass emigration of Dunmer from Morrowind after the eruption of Red Mountain almost two hundred years ago. Your argument doesn't have a leg to stand on.

I'm fairly certain that what Dagmar's advocating (and I agree with) is that the events of this game have obviously not occurred in a vacuum. And debating the facts of the situation requires some degree of familiarity with the lore. It's all well and good to offer opinions. Those are largely what we have to work with when it comes to these games, when we ask the "what ifs" and discuss motivations of persons and factions. But it's vital that the history, which is indeed important, is engaged. Otherwise the opinions maintained come across with little backing, and that makes for awkward and sometimes laughable debates in an otherwise serious thread.

No one needs to be a lore master. I'm certainly not. However, facts are significant and have a role to play here.

Who is to say the elves weren't that self-centered when they moved in the first place? You seem to think people should care about you even if you only care about yourself. Well, sorry, most sane people don't operate like this and would not tolerate it. And in times of war you flat out stating you don't care is bound to cause further resentment. If they don't consider this their new home and they don't like it, you know they can move out..

Well in this case security. Unless you consider letting elves rape and pillage thier way through your country being a good emperor. Signing the WGC was a good idea. Let put it in terms you understand. If I put a gun to your balls and asked to renounce your god, would you say yes and worship when I'm not around or let me shoot? I wouldn't be suprised if you let me shoot, you seem like the "honor before reason type"...

Dagmar

Let's put it this way, I'm discussing the current situation, while the history of the world is important for having the full grasp of things, why should it matter that much?
It matters because it adds context to the situation. We're not even talking about history from a previous era. A lot of what is being referenced here is within the past 50 years and has to do with the events leading up to the White-Gold Concordat, which is extremely relevant to what is going on in the civil war. A perfect example of why this is relevant was in the series of posts where you didn't understand the size of the Third Empire and the size of the Aldmeri Dominion at the inception of The Great War and made a very relevant mischaracterization about them to create an invalid argument about the viability of the current Empire in the face of another Aldmeri Dominion offensive. When it was pointed out to you by several more knowledgeable people in this thread, your reaction was to be dismissive and pretend it didn't matter.

I provided some context in another thread earlier, again directed at you, as to why the situation with the White-Gold Concordat might be delicate even after 25 years. I could repost it here but it's a bit lengthy and if you're too intellectually lazy to engage in the simple search I'm not sure if it would even be worth the effort.
