Imperials or Stormcloaks, what one?

So you lot get all active without me? It's on *Cracks knuckles* lets go.

Their survival brings life to one and death to another ~ but does not mean the Victor is right. Only that this faction is still alive when the smoke finally clears.

The Empire still remains, with or without Skyrim. The Empire was unwilling to abandon such a large number of those wishing to remain part of the Empire. They're doing their job in Skyrim, dealing with the rebellion.

If the Empire truly wanted, they could crush the rebellion in a heartbeat. But it all comes down to which resources are better used where, of course the Empire could send two Legions into Skyrim and destroy the rebellion. The problem is, war is looming just around the corner.

Yet they failed to defeat the Thalmor, that is fact, which is what got us into this situation.

The Empire was never going to defeat the Thalmor in the first round, everything was stacked against the Empire. The Thalmor have been working to weaken the Empire for the last hundred and fifty years, and during that time of the Umbriel Crisis they lost entire Legions, thousands upon thousands of citizens. The Imperial City's walls themselves being attacked by undead.

The Empire was weakened greatly, while the Thalmor weren't touched. They continued, the Empire had to rebuild again after Umbriel Crisis which no doubt gave the Thalmor a head start.

The Empire managed to do the impossible, they put up one hell of a fight during the Great War. Completely stopping the Aldmeri advance in Hammerfell, and then pushing them back across Hammerfell with the soldiers left behind. They also managed to wipe out an entire Aldmeri main army.

For a greatly weakened Empire, unprepared for war. That speaks volumes of the Empire's knack for survival.

Skyrim is the heart of this Empire. Which is fitting in that the fate of the Empire will be decided thusly.

Cyrodiil is, and always will be the heart of the Empire. Skyrim is a far flung province of the Empire, one that was easily taken because the Nords are unable to work together for long periods of time.

Sure Ulfric may unite them for a time, but they'll merely go back to clan wars and Jarl petty infighting. It's their nature, conflict and violence.

True. The Empire won't be going into the next war as strong as they were the first, but neither is the Dominion. The Empire also have had more time to prepare this time.

The Empire could actually in fact be going into the next Great War, stronger than the last.

Allow me to explain, the Empire has had a five-six year head start over the Aldmeri Dominion. They have been preparing for twenty six years.

The last Great War, Titus Mede II inherited a weakened Empire. He was given the forces at his disposal by the Emperor he succeeded, for the last twenty six years. Titus II has been preparing his Empire for war, for round two in the ring. That is completely different to the last round, since the Empire wasn't preparing.

The difference now is, the Empire has spent majority of it's time preparing, and waiting. The death of Titus Mede II, invalidates the White-Gold Concordat. Him being the reigning Emperor when it was signed, means the White-Gold Concordat would need to be signed again. To keep it current, no doubt. Now we know, both sides are going to fight each other.

Skyrim most likely would miss out on the next war, Ulfric's rebellion will cause them to have to rebuild and restore their province. They have no proper Legions, so the reinforcements that they would send, are already in Cyrodiil.

The Empire doesn't exactly need Skyrim, since all it's forces are in Cyrodiil just about. The Empire is going to throw everything it has at the Aldmeri Dominion, and the Legions are scary when on the attack. They are adaptive, creative and deadly. Legions are going to hit them like a hammer, the Great War was destructive, but it gave the Empire something valuable. The Legion knows the Aldmeri fighting tactics and style.

The downfall of the Thalmor will be their arrogance, they underestimate the Empire. They talk tough, boasting, and easily dismissing their enemy. That is a great mistake, one should never underestimate their enemy. Especially an enemy that is fighting to survive, and fighting for revenge. It'll be a bloody war, but my money is on the Empire. The Empire knows the Thalmor threat, they don't dismiss that threat. Tullius even respects his enemy Elenwen.

Every single Legion, is willing to die for the Empire. Are the Aldmeri soldiers, willing to die for the Thalmor? Who treat them like dirt, conduct racial and religious purges.

Quick question guys, and I would like an accurate answer...

How long was it between Ulfric killing the High King and Alduin's attack at Helgen??

"Ulfric founded the Stormcloaks years ago, as a sort of private army to advance his ambitions. He's always used the ban on the worship of Talos to stir people up against the Empire. He never succeeded in getting much support, so a few months ago he murdered the High King! That got the Empire's attention." - Hadvar

Few months prior.

LONG LIVE THE EMPIRE

Do you have a better idea? A reason why I should not join the Empire? I've listened to the Imperial side and they have a strong case. All I've gotten out of the Thalmor side is being forced to change my signature to something out of a 4th grade geometry book (and leave the guild if I refuse too change) and having my emails ignored. I do count you as a friend and I do remember what happened last time, so let me dial this back. Seeing how aside from you, it was me defending the Dominion's cause on here. Alone. We were a good team too. :) Probably because I'm more about the Ayleids and less about the self-centered spoiled Thalmor.

And if you will present your case for the Dominion. Cause there are some things about the Empire I don't like. However, it's no bad at all when you consider how the Thalmor go door to door threatening farmers over what God they worship. For some reason, I might be wrong, but I don't think the Great Ayleid Kings of old would even do something like that.

No. They preferred to torture for enjoyment.

Some of them did sure. Hey nobody's perfect. The good clean Alessians burned down entire cities killing Ayleids indiscriminately. Even though - More than a few of these same Ayleid Kings helped them earn their freedom.

Torture, humiliation and slavery for a very long time tend to make people a little less rational. A few Ayleid Lords may of helped the rebellion, but only because they were going to win, so they were trying to ensure their own self preservation and perhaps some way to not answer for their past crimes. When their regime came crashing down.

The Ayleid's deserved what came to them, thousand times over.

I can respect your decision. I meant not to offend you. I just thought it was ironic that I returned to the forums (Not that I was a major player in them to begin with...) Just to see you took the oath about an hour ago. I just wanted to point it out.

Unfortunately, Bethesda did a real sh!tty job with the Thalmor in Skyrim. We really get only one point of view (The Stormcloaks and Imperials.) Other than that, there is no real chance to evaluate the Thalmor other than two people. And to base a faction's views on two people is not the strongest assumption you could make. (Ahem, Stormcloaks.)

Therefore, you can't pull Imperial textbooks out of your @ss whenever an argument comes up. Defending the most villianized faction in TES (The Dark Brotherhood seems to be more defended.) It certainly is hard work. And it lacks any reward what-so-ever.

I can't blame you. There are some really strong loremasters here. If I defended the Dominion as furiously as you, I would have given up long ago.

Aldmeri Dominion of the Fourth Era isn't something really to defend. They're not the same faction as they were in the Second Era, the Thalmor of the Fourth Era are political tyrants. They used lies and assassinations to gain power, spreading propaganda, to further their own goals until they were able to do things openly in their lands and beyond.

Slaughtering anyone who opposes them or holds knowledge of their betrayal of the Altmer people. The Thalmor are not something to defend, they betrayed their own kin to oppress and abuse. They started small, things that people shrugged off small freedoms taken away. Then it got larger and larger, until it was too late and the Altmer finally realizing their mistake of allowing this to happen tried to flee. Only to be slaughtered in Hammerfell on the Night of Green Fire. That is only one instance we know about, since it occurred in Empire lands. We do know for seventy years there was some internal issues, which if history tells us anything. Those seventy years were spent slaughtering those who resisted.

Bosmer communities are slaughtered in racial purges, even many Khajiit hate them. The Thalmor merely enslaved the Khajiit with lies, and now brainwash several of them to act as assassins. To be used as pawns. Have done, since they assassinated the Mane.

What is there to really defend about the Thalmor of the Fourth Era?

I can't deny that those things happened. But I also can't ignore the Empires faults. The Empire provoked the Thalmor into the Great War to begin with, for the Emipre was only caught off guard because the Dominion wouldn't put up with being its, for lack of a better term, b!tch.

Now before we go on, we need to know what the difference between the Dominion and the Thalmor are. From what I could gather the Thalmor are a separate entity from the Dominion itself. The Thalmor are the ruling political party of Alinor. Therefore I support the Dominion. (I should have clarified)

With Skyrim, the only area where you can find the Dominion without the Thalmor is Northwatch Keep. Just figured I'd throw that in.

All this makes me wonder what TES6 will be like. Kirkbride stated that the Thalmor would win, and it appears that basically the 4th Era is pictured as the time humans would once again loose power.
But if they really win, what of all those people who resist them? Like, 90% of Imperial population and citizenry?
If Great War 2 ends up destructive like WWII was, I think the main quest of TES6 will be spent trying to help the few survivors and digging graves.

The Empire provoked the Thalmor? They cut all ties to the Imperial Empire, went silent. All the while sending forth assets, and agents into Imperial lands. Funding bandits to slaughter innocents, they assassinated Ocato and caused the Stormcrown Interregnum.

In which sense did the Empire, exactly provoke the Thalmor into war? Rejecting the ultimatum? It wouldn't of been accepted and they know it. Even if it had, the Aldmeri Dominion had their army in hidden camps, ready to strike. Had the Empire accepted the ultimatum and then entered into full scale Civil War. Would the Aldmeri Dominion really be sitting around and not get involved?

The Thalmor/Aldmeri Dominion have been trying to weaken and destroy the Empire for over a hundred and fifty years. Doubtful they'd stop then.

Thalmor and Aldmeri Dominion are two different things, yes. It still isn't the same as the Second Era, since the Thalmor and their Aldmeri Dominion is merely tyrannical oppression masking as equal alliance. The Thalmor are the ruling body of the Aldmeri Dominion, they control it. Not just a political party of Alinor, but the political party of the Aldmeri Dominion.

"They're the rulers of the Aldmeri Dominion - what used to be the Imperial provinces of Summerset Isle and Valenwood. The Thalmor take the arrogance of high elves to the extreme - they believe they are the rightful rulers of all of Tamriel. For a century or more, the Thalmor had been picking away at the Empire."

Dominion soldiers are forbidden to enter Skyrim or any province of the Empire. Only agents of the Aldmeri Dominion (Thalmor) may enter the Empire under the White-Gold Concordat. The Dominion itself is being kept out by the Empire with their Legions on the border.

Hence why Imperial Soldiers keep bringing that up. Northwatch Keep is a Thalmor political prison.

Or TES 6 could be the second Great War itself. We return to Cyrodiil and see it burn once more, under the engines of war. That would be a deep game, and very emotional for anyone who understands TES lore.

I want a game on Alinor however, where there are multiple factions each vying for control of the Dominion to replace the Thalmor as leaders. A game like what ESO could have been, only single player and on a smaller scale. Maybe finally the Dominion can have good leadership.

If you are going to look at bigger organizations, it won't take long to discover flaws and bad business. Please, let's keep in mind what the Stormcloaks have done, and those are not even close to the size of the Imperial Legion, nor have they been around for that long.
I don't think the Empire 'provoked' the Thalmor. How do you mean provoking?

Bethesda people have written messages on their forum that were anti-Thalmor. The developers seem to disagree with the Thalmor and therefor I think there is a small chance they will win a second war.

You give me ranter. Ranter means that you are going on and on and on about a subject, but this is one of my first posts, so how did I get a ranter rating?

I just asked you a question. I was actually interested in your opinion because I didn't know what you mean. Sorry for showing interest?

The White Gold Concordant is entirely valid if you look at it terms that the Dominion wants retribution for incidents and atrocities committed by the empire.
