This is the first real-time, first person game I have played and, while I love it, I find some really odd aspects that I have problems with. Probably some are due to making it possible to survive (especially early on), and others are coding conveniences. Still, I would like to hear the thoughts of more experienced players. Of course complaining about 'lack of reality' in a game like Skyrim may be irrational anyway.
1) Dragons are wussy. I expected dragons to be a real fight. In fact trolls and ogres are far more of a problem (certainly at low levels). I know it is needed for me to kill a dragon to move the game on, but at level 4 couldn't you pretend others did the heavy lifting and I just got in a lucky shot at the end?
2) Being able to call 'time out' in a fight, switch armor, weapons, drink all types of potions etc. and then restart the fight. This seems unrealistic, to put it mildly. At least let the enemy have a chance to keep attacking you while you chug your potion, sheathe your sword and take out an axe, etc.
3) NPCs behave really irrationally. I walk into a room and meet four bandits who, especially early on, will eat me for lunch. I quickly learned that I could kill one, step back through the door, recover and repeat. I imagine their thought processes
"An enemy:kill him!"
They all charge: one gets there first and I kill him, then step back out.
"pl*ps, Tom just got killed. Where the hell is the guy who was by the door?. Well, too bad. Lets walk away.
I come back in.
"Damn, there's that guy again. Where could he have come from?"
All charge, I kill one and step out.
" I can't believe this: now Meg is dead, and that guy has disappeared again!"
Keep repeating until all dead. I keep thinking that, at some point, they will suddenly look and say
"The door! He went out the door! Let's go out and kill him!"
Probably this type of analysis interferes with my total immersion experience, but it does bug me. Nonetheless, I am spending waaay too much time with this game, just ask my wife.
