Names of your skyrim character

I got the game like three days after it came out, so I had no idea that Astrid was the name of an NPC at the time, or I would've named her something else.
It may be confusing around the Sanctuary, but as you pointed out, Astrid is a fairly common Scandinavian sounding name. It's not like no two people have the same name, how many Chris's do you know? So, I wouldn't worry about it, soon enough,
you will be the only surviving Astrid
and you won't have to worry about it.

I look for words in ancient languages like Latin and ancient Egyptian. And, of course, the Dragon Tongue :Dragonborn: .. Here are some of the names (I did not use these but I've written them down anyway ;)) :
  • Ferox (Latin), means fierce
  • Fidelitas (Latin), means loyalty
  • Caligo (Latin), means mist or fog
  • Creperum (Latin), means darkness
  • Umbra (Latin), means ghost, shadow or dusk
  • Ahkrin (Dragon), means courage
  • Fahdon (Dragon), means Friend
  • Nefer (Ancient Egyptian), means beautiful
  • Sekhrey (Ancient Egyptian), means captain
  • Kheftey (Ancient Egyptian), means enemy
I once used 'Shespet' wich sounds awesome but really means 'cucumber' :D

Yeah, she already is. But you're right, in all of Skyrim there's bound to be repeats of common names.

how about in all of Tamriel?
Maybe even more? I don't know, it's more of a Nordic name, might not be as popular outside of Skyrim.

It was funny in the Sanctuary though, we also had the same hairstyle and blue eyes. Though I'd often have headgear on, so it didn't really matter.

coincidence, sometimes you can get scared of it.

I don't like the headgear in general. especially the shrouded cowl.. I just don't like it.

I never use headgear, except for the Thieves Guild and Nightingale hoods. When you use a helmet or something your hair 'disappears' and that looks stupid on female characters..

I always saw this as a bit of an unrealism. There's a couple Hrokis (One merely refered to post-mortem as being grabbed by Mirmulnir) but in every culture, there's always Those names you tend to keep running into. if I didn't know any better, I'd think the Dev team actually changed names, because they found they'd already been used. I've actually had one named Irileth because I couldn't come up with anything better at the time, and then when we ran into each other in the Throne Room, I said "Small World" in character to lampshade it. (Ok, I copied her completely, so I could play Irileth, and Jenassa fighting together against the world. A Spellsword, and Assassin made an incredibly good fireteam.)

Exactly! you know what I mean! I don't like it on males either..

It's more personal. A huge Nord who isn't afraid of showing his face. truly facing death!

I guess it's just personal preferance, but I'm almost always in a Helmet, Mask, or at least Hood. For Armor, it just makes sense, you get a 25 point bonus for each armor peice you wear, so it lowers the Armor Cap, and all of the useful Perks in those trees require you to wear one. I find that Wind Walker, and Unhindered alone are worth more to me than seeing my hairdo.

I agree on the Shrouded Hood, especially on the rest of the set, because of the gap in the neck, it looks crappy. However, the Ancient Shrouded Cowl matches up to the Nightingale Armor's high collar. While you don't get the additional Armor bonus from it, Unless I'm playing a Nightblade (Who Armor is a moot point for) the extra Bow damage is a lot more useful than the Illusion bonus ever is. I pretty much have to build a character to barely cast Invisibility with it to make that even desirable over a more useful enchantment. OTOH, the Shrouded Hood is probably the best looking one in the game.

For all my Assassin characters, I generally Mix&Match those two sets for the best combination of Looks, and Enchantments. IDK about Armor,, because that's an issue for Open Batle, which you avoid all together by killing from behind. Therefore, I even wear Master Robes of Illusion on the Nightblade set, because the Magicka Regeneration is more valuable than the Resistances on the Armor. That, and I think it looks cool:

BOT (For a minute there, I thought this was the Favorite Armor thread) That's Nightmer, who's name should be Obvious. His real name is Mesmiro, after a historical pseudo-scientist, who coined the term "Animal Magnetism."

When I need a helmet I will use it. Most of the time I can attack my foes and win without the helmet, so if I don't like it I don't use it. :D

Oh, that makes sense to me. I mean, I often change to Clothes in town, for instance, because it's kind of glaring running around looking like some faceless Tank, unless that's in Character. Also, some of my Battlemages normally wear Robes with a Mask, and Heavy Boots/Gauntlets, but if I know I'm walking into a nasty fight, I'll drop in a Cuirass. Usually the Wolf Armor, because it matches the Battlemage Aesthetic, and is extremely light. This also procs the Stagger Resistance perks, but the rest of the time, I have better running speed, Stamina, and Magicka Recovery from the robes. I can definitely see how you could play similarly with/without a Helmet, especially with the Steed Stone. Historically, Warriors did the same, mostly for Situational Awareness. You're a lot more likely to see/hear an impending Ambush if you don't have a steel kettle over your eyes, and ears.

I do think of a name, a family name: Bare-Face. A family who are so badass, they never need headgear! from grandpa Greg to baby Billy

My god that wondrous sig. Oh also I think Imma try and play skyrim and buy the DLC. As you can see by my avatar I may be on a Zevran trip. Looks like the Dark Brotherhood gets to meet an Anivian Crow :P
