No Thieves Guild for me

Daelon DuLac

How do you backstab a Dragon?
I was right. I find the Thieves Guild quest repulsive. Nothing about it appeals to me. All of you that enjoy it, more power to ya, but, no armor or weapon is worth it. I just can't get past ripping people off, breaking in to their homes and using bully tactics. Not for me.

If I want somebody's stuff, I'll kill them. All this sneaking around and victimizing people is not my idea of a good time.

Started the first few quests and found them boring and repulsive.

Fortunately, Skyrim is not the kind of game that will require you to finish this questline to "win" the game.

Bye bye Thieves Guild. I've got better things to do with my time.

I've always seen it as morally disapproving of what I would do in the real world. It just doesn't feel quite right to have to beat people up for money, in my opinion.. I guess you and me float in the same boat with that matter then.

So you have no gripes about killing someone for their stuff. But sneaking around to do it , without killing them, is worse....seems legit.

I enjoyed it, though I was put off by it's lackluster ending, lack of followers and so on.
I find Chillrend, the Nightingale Armor/Weapons & Skeleton Key well worth my efforts, not to mention the crown of the Barenziah and fences.

To each his own I guess, enjoy your murder and whatnot....:)

I thought the quest line was pretty bland, and only ever joined them for the armor, because lets just admit it, that armor looks awesome. I tend to go with the Dark brotherhood, if only because I tend to play assassin based characters.

I mostly enjoy it for the fences and the armor (both Thieves' Guild and Nightingales). I rarely get as far as retrieving the Skeleton Key. None of the questlines really sparkle as far as I'm concerned. It's all fetch it and kill it type stuff.

I don't enjoy being a thug and leaning on people to make them pay. That part was distasteful to me yet I'll steal everyone blind and have no qualms about killing. Go figure.

The beauty of it of course, is that everyone can enjoy the game the way they like to play.

None at all. I had to work for it and it. If I was getting paid to kill someone, fine. If I killed someone because they were going to kill me, fine. But taking peoples stuff, just because some goobers in a sewer that work for an arrogant b**ch tell me to? No.

I'll try to follow through with the main line, simply because it is part of the game, but I will drop it if it requires me to do any more of this crap.

I realize that there are people out there that enjoy the whole pick-pocketing & breaking and entering storyline. Cool! I played D&D, even played a few thieves, but, to me it's just plain lazy. What? Too good to work for a living? What makes you think you have the right to take other peoples hard in money or belongings just so you can fence them for cash.

Besides - they live in a sewer. I'm supposed to respect them? At least the guy who's doing it so that he can have some fun, I can deal with. The rest of them take it waAAAYYYYY to seriously. You're a "Thieves" Guild for goodness sake. You are not that dangerous (or you'd be the "Thugs") guild - besides the Bandits got that covered. Shakedowns? Fine, I'm up for that, but that's not being a Thief.

I wonder why Skyrim considered the "Thieves Guild" to be like the mafia. There's no business involved here.

I could deal with the whole "burn the hives" thing, at least it served a purpose...

It's too bad really. It's such a large part of the game and pretty well done, but I just can't do it. I just can't suspend my morals that far.

Everybody keeps pointing out - "but, you'll kill somebody without a second thought." Well yeah! They're trying to kill me! I wasn't thrilled with the DB crap either, but did it through on the mainline just to say I did. I'll never do it again. There's no higher purpose. That's what I need.

Dragonborn - well... Dragons!

Hearthfire - well... make a home & family (or multiples!)

Dawnguard - well... vampires! Kill 'em all! We will not be their cattle!

Maybe someday I will play a thief. Swallow back the bile and just get it over with. But, for time being, FAH!

I might even try a vampire someday, but not for now. Been a werewolf (pointless endeavor).

I'm not the violent type, but I don't think there was a playthrough where I didn't dismember Dirge and ripped his organs out with my bare hands.

Oh, and.. What? I must become a Nightingale? Can I refuse? No? Well, I'm done here.

That Questline is soooo boring haha Whenever I make theives i usually am Rival to them haha I usually hang aroudn with Silda the Unseen in Windhelm and rip people off there wearing ragged clothes.

They act like there is no other way to defeat Mercer. You are the damn Dragonborn, you slay creatures that are much more deadly than a douchebag thief...

All the questlines are pretty bland imo. Few exceptions here and there but I get my moneys worth on random stuff happening while exploring.

As far as morality goes... it's a video game. Killing bride pixels is no different than killing deathlord pixels imo.

lol I don't mind stealing from rich people or those that are doing wrong o.o... loved the storyline quest on my previous play through however on this one nah... my character is too much of a goody toe shoes this time RP wise ~.~

So your moral compass allows you to end the lives of people you don't know for money and your own status, but stealing a few trinkets here and there is too much?

Okay :P

I see you point, though

I am very Machiavellian in my moral beliefs, both in the real world and thus in Skyrim. My most compelling mantra in that regard is that, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" and in such a statement there is the admission that lines are often blurred grey rather than black and white.

Certain factions allow me to gain an advantage over others, or allow me to satisfy a certain socio-political disposition or opposition to a group or individual.

If I can gain an advantage over another, or acquire a better footing as a result of "scratching the back" of another, then I will do that. I am a hypocrite, however, in that my moral outlook is often very black and white - being that there are concepts that I agree with and will defend vigilantly, whilst there are many concepts that I find reprehensible and will pursue with a relentless abhorrence and opposition.

At least I admit it, as indeed you have done in your own regard, DuLac - I believe in wearing your colours. There are many more who would play such a game and yet are unaware of their personal and quarrelsome failings.

My reason to do the Thieves Guild quests was based more on my role-play situation than a need for money or artifacts.
I was already fabulously wealthy by the time I could get around the Riften Market Hmm? bug to join to start with.
The network of agents and fences across Skyrim will serve my cause as a seperate revolutionary element (apart the Stormcloaks) that plans to take the fight to the Thalmor rather than wait for an Imperial response to Ulfric`s takeover (much in the same way the Allied Forces in WWII used Mafia connections in the Italian Campaign.)

My beef with the Thieve`s Guild wasn`t the lackluster story-line but the bugs ( Under New Management never completed b/c of yet another Brynjolf bug) and the fact that after all is done you`ve got a Cistern full of characters with not a single follower among them !
Disappointing.
