Skyrim is for the nords!!

I like em cus there big, strong, for the most part brave and honour bound ...

This is all true, but strangely enough, that's never the sort of character I play and yet I love my Nords. :D I feel like I should play at least one warrior hero Nord, but I have never been able to get into heavy armor or two-handed weapons.

One thing I love about NPC Nords is that, for the most part, they're quite jovial and down to earth. (There are exceptions, of course, like Maven Black-Briar and Farengar Secret-Fire.)

To answer sahqonsah, for me, I guess I've just never been all that intrigued by hulking warrior types. I have nothing against the Nords (except the ones I do have grievances with, heh), but the archetype just has never really interested me in a general way. There is just a lack of pull for me. I appreciate the duty to honor and reverence for ancestral 'old ways'. I'm keen on looking to the past myself. However, not all Nords fit said mold and it's often the ones who don't that I find more interesting.

I'm willing to admit that my life-long love for ancient Romans has probably fostered my love for the Imperials, whom I find greatly intriguing on many levels. But again, it doesn't even have anything to do with civil war allegiances when it comes to any of the races, because they all are found on all sides of it. It would be silly for me to base my liking of any of them on that alone, given how mutable it is.

Not to mention, I'm starting to play previous ES games. It's been giving me broader exposure to the races and their characteristics that are carried through the series.

Nords kick butt...Bretons kick ass

that being said though i have a level 81 nord warrior and a level 81 breton assasin

Rock Kickass and Tylas Winterborn

I see, basically they go against your play style, like an Orc thief for instance? Noth that there's anything wrong with orcs I just don't think they suit the "sneak" type of build,

Oh yes they can. If you give them the right perks.

My problem with the Nords is that I don't think they look good. Except for Ulfric, he's a babe.
To me, they might be the least attractive race and I'm just that shallow that I don't want to play as one.

But then again I love Orcs so maybe I'm a bit strange...

My first character was this really badass Nord warrior though. I just put a helmet on her so I didn't have to look at her.

Sort of, yeah. :p It's a combination of playing style issues and, well, I've just never found Viking/Norse history and lore all that interesting. Like I said, the Imperials naturally call to me because of my intense passion for ancient Romans. It's certainly not the only reason why I like them, of course, but my existing intrigue with the people they're loosely based on is a contributing factor. The same factor just isn't there with the Nords. That's not to say anything bad about the Nords, to be sure. I'm just much more neutral when it comes to attraction to them generally speaking.

That's a matter of opinion, not fact.

No jersey that's a fact, orcs are just not suited to be thiefs, that don't mean they "can't" be excellent sneaks, just like a bosmer just isn't suited to be a heavily armoured warhammer swinging berserker. Am I the only one who thinks this way?

Why aren't they suited for it? What the prerequisites for a thief or warrior? I think it depends on the individual, not the overall race of said individual. A great example is that Orc at the College, he's a Mage. Was he not suited for it?

I too have an interest in the anchient romans and I think the imperials are a great race and I've created loads of imperial characters, there cool and make great battlemages I judt kinda like nords more personally. Changing subject just out of curiosity, do you study ancient romans by any chance Docta?

Your missing the point, he can be just as good a mage as anybody, I'm not denying that. He just dosent suit that's all I'm saying.

But, I want you to tell me why they aren't suited for it. It's like telling an Asian that they aren't suited for playing Basketball.

I think it depends on the individual person. In reality, someone who is small, thin, and lacking muscle tone would not be suited to wear heavy armor and wield a warhammer because they physically wouldn't be able to handle it; and someone tall and muscular would not be suited to being a thief because they would be more likely to be seen and heard, and therefore caught. However, a Bosmer can very well be a big, tough guy (e.g. Elrindir in The Bannered Mare), and an Orc can very well be short and skinny (e.g. Atub in Largashbur). The stereotype of a Bosmer is a willowy archer and the stereotype of an Orc is a beastly warrior, but stereotypes are not hard and fast rules.

I do indeed. :) I just got a Masters degree in Latin and ancient studies. I'm planning to go back to graduate school in a year and pursue a PhD in Ancient History, with a special focus on Roman History. I've always loved ancient history and civilizations, and for a while I thought I might do both Roman studies and Egyptology. But, I've since focused on the Romans. Still love the ancient Egyptians though. =)

I'm a huge early empire fangirl, and talking/rambling about the emperors is a goofy past time of mine. Especially after a few beers. :P

Earlier on in the thread I said I had never played Khajiit or Bosmer, then I saw Uther's post and became inspired to just go ahead with them after all.

I play as all the races. Some more than others. I try not to limit myself when enjoying a game.

I hope no one gets mad because I'm "doing it wrong" but I just started up a Khajiit with heavy armor, sword/shield, minor archery, smithing, no magic, no sneak, no enchanting/alchemy. Joining the Stormcloaks for the civil war. I suppose I am playing like a Nord, but as a Khajiit? Wearing the open face Imperial Officer Helmet makes me look like Marvin the Martian, super black Khajiit face. In theory, it seems like Khajiit should be faster/jump higher, or be more nimble in general, but mechanics-wise they have bad racial/daily powers.

But that dosent mean you would stop them from playing, nor discriminate them either, they can play just as good as anyone else they are human after all. And this is about "FICTIONAL RACES" I don't see why you mentioned humans?
