Skyrim Wait Option

fleeon

Dark Elf Night Brother, Protector of Nocturnal
Hello there!
Just played my first half hour of Skyrim, and I am amazed... it is truly a fantastic game. However, when night came I had to complete a quest that required the presence of an NPC that was only around during the day. So I chose to use the wait option for 6 hours until dawn broke.

I want to know if the wait option is frowned upon in the gaming community because I honestly did not know, and I feel a little terrible right now.

THANKS

why the guilt? the option is there for exactly that reason. normally, i would just find a bed and go to sleep for 6 hours instead since it gives you experience bonus

It's completely normal! Although I understand if you want to be truly dedicated you should just do other things and return after 6 hours. :P

Yes I thought about doing that but the beds in Riverwood are owned and I don't want to pay for the beds in the Sleeping Giant Inn.

Have you guys used the wait option before?

no, not really. I just find a lot of things to do. Also, renting a bed in an inn only costs 10 gold :] I'm pretty sure that is really cheap and it is totally worth 20% extra experience gain for hours

i became a werewolf right off the top (on accident) and never got to indulge in the sleeping bonus.... i've been missing out on a 20% exp bonus this whole time D:

You haven't waited at all? Please wait for 6 hours to calm my OCD ;)

well, the NPCs are usually just available during the day and I always go to bed at night so it works pretty nicely :] If I would have to wait for a specific time, I would just quickly gather some ingredients or experiment on an alchemy station, etc.

Will you wait for 6 hours in game to calm my OCD down right now? lol PLEASE.

i hate using the wait thing. then i looked and somehow i clocked 44 hours. hope that makes you feel better!
That does, a lot actually. I don't think I will wait any more. Any one know if there is a way to revert the amount of waiting you've done or erase the stat completely?

ALSO: is the 44 hours really true? ;P

You get 5% bonus experience gain for sleeping in a bed thats not yours
you get 10% bonus experience gain for sleeping in a bed that you own or paid for
you get 15% bonus experience gain for sleeping in any bed with the lover stone active or if you sleepin the same bed as your wife/husband.
all are gained for 8 in game hours and cannot be combined with any similar bonuses

I'm stuck in "god mode." Fast travel, waiting, going back to previous saves if I don't like the way something turns out. I save extensively, after making any progress at all. I do it all, have no shame. Some hardcore guys might think that's a weak play style, and thats cool. There is a lot to be said for always traveling by foot, or never saving the game and only relying on the autosave. I just don't have the patience for that.

i dont see any issues with waiting, not something i do persoanlly (or fast travel) but its there in the game as an option. so far how waited an hour when i mashed some buttons in quick successions by accident

Not sure f you just worded it strangely, but when you have the lover stone active you do not benefit at all from sleeping in any bed. The effect of the lover stone is 15% xp bonus all the time, but it cannot be combined with a rested of well rested bonus.

I'm preety sure the wife/husband dosen't sleep.

I suppose this goes along with the "Never Fast Travel" rule, but I do wait on occasion and don't see a problem with it even though I avoid fast travel except for carriages. Different strokes for different folks.

My only beef with waiting is that it's not instantaneous. I have to watch the slider count down. I'm not sure why Bethesda did it this way unless it has something to do with the possibility of your wait/sleep being interrupted. It's not a huge annoyance but the longer you want or need to wait, the more of a pain it is.

I sometimes allow myself to wait and fast travel and such until I reach a certain point. My skirmisher, for example, was able to do all those fast-travely type stuffs until he became the leader of the Harbinger and got married, simply because I didn't want to "roleplay" him until he became established in the role that he was designed for.

So you could always go that route: Establish a time period that you will allow yourself to do these things, and THEN stop waiting. Sadly, unless you are using the PC version, I don't think there is a way to undue your wait-times.

I only wait for an hour or two at most, to keep the realism going. That's within the range of plausibility. Waiting for an entire day is something that an actual person just wouldn't do and wrecks the roleplay style that I'm going for.
