Slightly easier gameplay style to BIGwoolys hardcore one

hey everyone like many of you I've been reading the adventures of Hrisskar iii and been thoroughly entertained. BIG wooly has inspired us all to stop boosting and add a bit of a challenge to the game we all love so much.

I tried playing to BIGwoolys rules but really struggled so i made a slightly easier set, but still a challenge
  • Difficulty on expert
  • 0% HUD
  • No fast travel unless by cart, and can only use cart once per level
  • Once you finish the intro in Helgen you must drop all your get and gold except your foot wraps and tunic
  • No use of restoration magic
  • No potions in battle
  • Only 10 potions of any sort maximum
  • No smithing or enchanting
  • 50 arrows max
  • Must start the game with a 100 weight carry limit, if you level up stamina from this point you can add onto that 100 e.g. my character has 330 carry limit so my max is 130
  • No paying for leveling up
  • No use of exploits
  • No unrealistic perks (slow time for shield and bow etc)
  • Must sleep in bed 8 hours a day
  • Must eat 10% of max health a day
  • Can only use map upon receiving a quest or starting a quest as to show which general direction you need to go
  • No autosaving, can only save directly after resting in a bed
  • Can only level up directly after sleeping
  • Try to make your Skyyrim experience like real life, a brood point but very valid. For example i must have a dagger in my inventory to skin a animal·
  • You can only carry what you would be physically capable in real life, for example you wouldn’t run around with 5 greatswords and 20 bottles of mead
Any additions would be welcome, I'm currently playing under these rules now level 5 red guard named Raekwon

Make sure you all read these as they are where all this came from

DIARY OF A NORD REFUGEE - HRISSKAR III

Why not just not giga-grind and pre-plan your characters and at the same time not neuter the fun-bag? It is possible you know.

another fun character to try out is a merchant/crafter, someone who does absolutly no fighting, exept for killing animals for skins, you lvl your speeck alchemt and smitihng skills up ( not using exploits) and travel around making and selling goods :D a nice change form killing everything lol

Oh I wanted to do this but couldn't figure out how to advance. Do you just not do -any- of the main story at all?

well what i did origianly was just make and sell stuff, now i do anything that dosent involve bloodshed, so i lvl sneak, lockpicking, speech, alchemy, smithing and pickpocketing :D lvl 29 without killing a single person! lol but nope i cant do any of the main quest line, only a few side missions, and some of the thieves guild quests ^^

That sounds like a fun idea. I also had the idea you could be a blacksmith - no fighting - just travelling around Skyrim learning to be the best blacksmith and selling the things you make

Just play up til you get your hands untied then do what you want

With either degree of hardcore how long does it take to get used to these rules gameplay wise, not difficulty wise? I can't memorize them all and go play without having to check the post for each move I make to ensure I'm keeping to guidelines.

I think you can adapt fairly quickly.

Figuring your carry weight is super easy. If you can carry 330 and you'r allowing your character to carry 30%, just drop the last digit which gives you 10% (33) and then multiply by 3 (99).

If you're trying to figure out how much food you have to eat and you're going with the 10% of health rule, and you have 180 health, just drop the last digit and there you have it (18). If you're going with my 5% rule just drop the last digit (18) and then divide by 2 (9).

As for remember the other specific rules, they are pretty much based on common sense so they are easy to pick up and remember. Keep in mind you can always start with a few rules and add more as you go. My current restriction list has a number of rules that weren't on it when I started my character, and some of the rules have been adjusted while I played to better enhance the experience.

Again, the most important rules (in my opinion) are limiting your carry weight, no smithing and no enchanting. Those alone will help make the gameplay much better.

Thanks thats good advice, going to follow the basics I know off the top of my head and add them as I go along.

I like many of the rules and on my next character I may try some of them.

I'm curious why you don't want to let yourself use the cart more than once a level. It's an optional method of travel if you can afford it. It's not "cheating by fast travel".

why can't I take 20 bottles of mead!? How am I supposed to party! lol OOH now wouldn't that be an interesting affect to have imposed on you. After x number of drinks, you get wobbly and blurry eyes and if you drink 2x amount you fall down passed out. then you're completely vulnerable to a thief and they could kill you or take you to some random spot on the map and drop you with nothing.

I'm also curious, most of the characters I've read using these or similar rules are thieves or fighter types. How would you adjust these rules (guidelines?) to fit someone who is going to try a strictly mage type?

Using a cart to fast travel doesn't take much money, its pretty easy to get money in skyrim. walking everywhere really makes you appreciate the details in the game

You would need a fair bit of adjusting for a mage, i personally don't really enjoy playing as a mage so I'm not gonna bother even writing up a set

First and foremost, severely limit your carry capacity. I'm talking 10% or less.

Second, don't use any restore magika potions during combat. You must rely on magika regeneration.

Third, avoid ANY perks in the magic trees that are 'unrealistic' or over-powered.

Fourth, don't allow your character to use any conventional weapons or wear any armor.

Fifth, make sure the HUD is set to 0%. Casting spells without the crosshair isn't always easy, and not seeing your magika level will make for a good challenge too.

That would be a good start I think.
