Tamriel. Continent or Country?

So I don't really know much about the Lore of the Elder Scrolls, but is Tamriel a continent or a country, and what lies beyond Tamriel? Are there other countries and continents ripe for the exploring? Or is Tamriel the only country/continent we're going to get to visit on Nirn? I'm curious. :P

I'm pretty sure Tamriel is a continent. Sort of like Middle Earth, if you're familiar with Tolkien lore. There are other places, such as where the Nords are supposed to have originally hailed from. Again, if you draw the parallel with Tolkien lore, it's similar to Valinor (if my Tolkien lore is acccurate, which it may not since it's been awhile). Valinor is where the elves go when they leave Middle Earth.

So, Tamriel and Middle Earth is where the stories take place, but there are other places that are referred to that supposedly exist. If that makes sense. Keeping with that tradition, I don't think we'll ever really explore anymore outside of Tamriel. Besides, there's lots of Tamriel we haven't seen yet.

There is Atmora to the north, the homeland of all men(well most men). There is Yokuda which is lost, it is the original home to the redguards. You have Aldmeris perhaps if you believe such things. Pyandonea far to the southwest, and Akavir to the east. But Tamriel itself is a continent full of smaller kingdoms and peoples, much like Akavir is

Here's a map too ;)

There is Akavir which Tamriel has invaded and been invaded by. Not much is known about it though Emperor Uriel V was killed there during the invasion of Akavir with the Tenth Legion. It is also home to Nirn's largest dragon Tosh Raka a tiger dragon covered in orange and black scales and it's believed that his eventual goal is to invade Tamriel. Though he was once a cat.
