Temp or Perma Jarl

If you were to be a Jarl, what hold would you want to control and why? Who would you support, oppose, or remain neutral in this civil war? What makes you want to be a Jarl and why would you want to stay as one? Keep in mind there's little to no traveling unless it's serious business. Would it be temporary business or would you be a permanent Jarl? Try to run most of your life?

That's about who you would appoint Thane, Housecarl, court wizard, etc. and anything else about this is too far and dead.
I want more in depth details about why, where, and how would you rule as a Jarl.

For me, I personally love Falkreath and would love to be the Jarl for it but with my luck I would be stuck in Dawnstar or Winterhold. The coldest places in Skyrim and the most miserable, even Solitude is nice and it's just as north as the others (just about but maybe barely more south). I doubt I would strike Windhelm but if I were to rule over Windheld, I would slowly make the races start to blend together. As much as the Nords wouldn't want it, I don't think I would be a Nord though. If I were human in Skyrim, I'm definitely an Imperial so some of the Nords would get all butt hurt that a Nord isn't in charge there and making all of these changes. Try to put more finances toward the Grey quarters to shape it up, make some changes for the Argonians to be welcome. It's too bad that Khajiit aren't welcome in any city except the Dragonborn, if I could make that change I would try to allow more caravans to freely enter and leave if they show respect and don't rob places (some instances show some caravans are guilty for the treatment of others).

I understand what a pain it must be to make things happen in a hold, to provide as much support all over will be difficult, the smaller the capitol, the harder the support will be to distribute among the hold. What about you? Where would you Jarl up the place and why, how, etc.?

I probably would prefer to be the Jarl of Riften and I would probably least prefer to be stuck in the harsh weathers of Winterhold.

If I was Jarl of Riften then I would aim to reduce the crime and try and kick the Black-Briars out for good, they practically own Riften and treat everyone else like a piece of dirt. I would try and occupy the Thieves guild but I understand that may not be possible as the Thieves Guild are highly trained and have associates in high places.

If I was reigning over Riften I would probably like to be a Nord because as the crime in the city is so high there would be a high chance of racist remarks being sent at races such as Dark elves and Khajiits.

The way I would become Jarl is the most interesting. I would raid the city with the Companions guild ( Most of my characters go down the companion route ) and head straight for the Black-Briars. From there I would throw everyone who has committed crimes into a Jail cell and claim Jarl as my own.

Neat idea! I've never really thought about it much, but I'd probably like the Rift, because I love the climate and the general pretty atmosphere, and it's be a fun place to live. I'd also like being in charge because, if I were Jarl in Riften, I'd ACTUALLY BE IN CHARGE. Bye-bye Maven and Thieves Guild! I'd try to move around and be as active as a jarl can be, and attempt to personally interact with my citizens and see how things are going. And I wouldn't do the classic "jarl slouch"! I'd do my best to put my people first and respond to every request I get and I'd try to stay neutral in the war. I don't think I'd really wanna be a permanent jarl. I'd like to just be there long enough to fix things up in Riften and keep everything stable for the duration of the Civil War.

And since I never replied to the thread you linked, I think I would pick the following people for my Court if they are willing:

Court Wizard would without a doubt be my friend Erandur. He would be a lovely advisor and guide, and could instead reside in the Temple of Mara if he wishes. :3
My Personal Housecarl would be Vilkas, if he'd come with me. Aside from being a big strong wolfy twin, he's smart and helpful and could be a part of decision making instead of just bodyguarding.
And for my Steward, I think Viarmo would be great if he decided to retire from his teaching duties. He's super knowledgeable and experienced and seems like he would really "know what he's doing". And he has an epic stewardly beard.
The honorable Mjoll would be the Thane of the city, and we could get some professional training to toughen up Aerin so he can be her housecarl.

(If I had to only pick people from the Rift for my court, I guess then I'd do Wilhelm for Steward, Marcurio for Wizard, and Grelka for Housecarl, even though my above choices are obviously much better...)

I have always found it a little strange that the Rift extends all the way to Ivarstead. Also High Hrothgar has always been a neutral place with the Greybeards, so you would think that Ivarstead would also be a more neutral zone being the gateway to High Hrothgar. My opinion is that as the Dragonborn you should take over Ivarstead and High Hrothgar making your own recognized hold. The Dovahkiin Hold!!! I would rework the steps to High Hrothgar getting rid of any wild animals, trolls, or spirits and help others to follow the way of the voice teaching others fus do rah! I would make my hold into a neutral area, not apart of the civil war, and from my hold I would expand upon the peace treaty made in the quest, Season Unending, and make a lasting peace that would solve Skyrim's problems. My ideal of the reaching of the peace treaty would be to make the Jarl of Whiterun the High king, and become independent from the Empire so as to allow the worship of Talos and expel the Thalmor, but enter into a treaty with the Empire to continue trade keeping it unhindered as well as a treaty reguarding mutual support against external threats. This way Skyrim would still have all the benefits of being part of the empire and of being an independent nation.
Until this peace or a peace like it could be reached, I would allow the worship of Talos in my hold and even build a shrine to Talos since I am a fellow dragonborn. I would give aide to all those trying to escape persecution. I would also be tolerant in allowing other races to come into my hold even the High elves including those of Thalmor (not if they try to outlaw worshiping Talos, then I would lead them up to High Hrothgar and fus do rah them off the cliff). I would also build some new buildings in Ivarstead including a smithy, courthouse/Jarl longhouse, and multiple new homes for refugees who worship Talos and I would invite people such as the Dark Elves from Windhelm to come. I would also allow the khajiit caravans into and through my city to help increase trade in my city. Eventually I could see myself having a nice and large centrally located city in Skyrim holding one of the few mountain passes that connects Western and Eastern Skyrim and then I could lay back content as Jarl.

Morthal is another town I'd like to run, it's the closest capitol to the center of the map outside of Whiterun, mostly marsh which isn't so bad. It's pretty foggy while Falkreath is rainy, but what's great about it is it's quiet.

I would like to take over Winterhold- actually rebuild the place and stop the citizens bloody complaining- it's a place covered in snow, all Nords should love it, Imperial City quality or Helgen after being destroyed. I would make sure that the College of Winterhold was more involved in Winterhold, and would often ask advice of them- they would make handy allies, the Dragonborn would not of been able to find the Elder Scroll without their help. Then, I would wall up Winterhold, to stop attacks from nearby animals and dragons, which are attracted to the College. I would start a small dock, with ship from underneath the College to Anvil, which would bring people looking to the college to escape the politics of the Mage's University in the Imperial City. This would also bring trade in, expanding the city more- the trade would be Horker from surrounding areas. If the College didn't mind, I would build and expansion of the city off their bridge, supported by the bride and college. Then have a carriage/tourist guide for visitors from Cyrodiil, and path to Ysgramor's Tomb. It would also help having Azura's Shrine nearby for people looking for a place to worship. I would probably expand the city down the hill were the houses are all destroyed. I would back the Imperials, due to they are right- Skyrim can't survive the Thalmor without Imperial presence. Winterhold will soon become a refuge for Imperials, when the Thalmor attack and take over Cyrodiil. Then Winterhold will be the new center of Imperials. The Thalmor could be fought off with help from the College.

EDIT: I would have the Arch-Mage as my Advisor/Court Wizard, my housecarl would be my dog (I LOVVVVVVVVE MY DOG) or a smith (make the smith trade in Winterhold), probably the guy from Solitude. - IF Legate Rikke was still alive, then she would be bodyguard/advisor/housecarl/thane.

Another thing I would like to be is maybe not necessarily make a new hold and become Jarl, but I would like to go back to Helgen and rebuild the town. I hate it that this town that had a city wall and a watchtower and several citizens is now simply a place for bandits to camp out as the town is now in ruins.

The Reach, it has a named Throne called The Mournful Throne. That is basically my only reason to be honest, I would have an awesome city, with an awesome chair. Civil war? I would be Imperials, not because of my current views but because you can't be neutral in the Civil war, Ulfric Stormcloak would make you an enemy if you're not supporting him, I do not like being threatened or forced into something;

Galmar: "If he's not with us, he's against us."
Ulfric: "He knows that. They all know that."

Not by some bastard on the other side of the land with a side kick dressed as a bear, I would already be dealing with crazy deer head wearing forsworn, now I'm being threatened by bear head wearing people? WHAT IS NEXT PEOPLE DRESSED AS HORKERS? Or a goat uprising... Madness.

Another thing that would be cool would be to be a Breton and in the confusion of the civil war lead the forsworn to take back Markarth and the Reach, except there are so many forsworn that they already practically own and enhabit all of the reach except Markarth. Being in the Empire's area I would first give Markarth to the Stormcloaks, so that way the Empire would be greatful for my uprising and power grab of Markarth. After this I would support the Empire, so that way the Empire would recognize the Reach as a seperate independent province from Skyrim, and to get revenge upon Ulfric the Bear of Markarth. I would then try to aid in helping those in the warrens to be lifted out of poverty, but I would not kick out the Nords unless they opposed my and the forsworn's rule, however I would no longer be tolerant of the forsworn's almost terrorist like activities/crime.
