today is a sad day.......

I am not trying to teach him anything. Just don't think its a good idea.
You let your kids watch porn?

Skyrim =/= Porn

Just a note here: You aren't really contributing to the topic, and I'm sure a multitude of other people will let you know in a snap if you continue to post belligerent comments like the one I quoted.

Belligerence is not welcome. I think this thread is interesting and many people have had responses I have enjoyed reading. But let's not cross the line of good citizenship. Obviously, exposing kids to video games (among other things) is a provocative topic. Here in the United States, it's the subject of a great many debates. I do think we can continue to discuss it constructively.

That being said, if you're (general "you") not in the mood to be constructive, just move on and don't post.

you know i have a 4 yr old daughter and me and my wife plays skyrim when i get off work. and other then a couple cut scenes where a bandit gets decaped there is absolutely nothing wrong with this game. theres hardley any foul language(actually the first time i heard someone say bitch i was like wtf did i just hear that right) and theres no nudity. sowhat if theres violence she knows its all make believe.

The decapitation scenes are pretty gruesome; it's amazing how desensitized to such imagery our society has become. From a parental point of view, I have more of an issue with the open choices that the game allows (DB, etc) than the graphics. It's one thing for 'good' to smite the 'evil' monsters, but when you're allowed to run your sword through anyone you encounter and quests are instructing you to commit murder... the lines blur a little bit. My own take is that the maturity of the child and the communication between the child and parents contribute to the what's acceptable and what's not acceptable; that's how we handle it in our house, anyway.

see now thats key. cause on my current character im mainly a theif/pickpocket sniper. and i stole a necklace off an old woman. well i thought my daughter was sleeping.( we do family campouts in the living room on weekends.) and out of nowhere she says shes gonna tell the guards.

@ toshiro, my daughter is four and watches me play all the time. she has a wonderful sense of what is real and what isn't. i've played about 150 hours now, and have yet to see any porn. i think the worst violence thus far has been the werewolf feeding, but i just don't change in front of her...

jramey, i'm really sad for you today. i can say that my second character has encountered far less in the way of bugs, and is leveling much faster :) so, maybe this will end up being a sort of blessing.

Hey thanks for the positive comments. As far as thinking it bad of me to let my 4 year old play you prob wont like the fact that I take him fishing and plan on taking him deer hunting when he's a little older but that prob don't settle well with you either. Sorry back on topic, I've checked for all the saves and they're gone but I'm ok with it now, just needed to vent

Condolences... In the future I suggest making your son his own profile to sign into on the PS3 so whatever he does wont affect your save game. Did this for my wife, its to easy to accidentally save over each others files. Just don't let him get into the PS3 save data files...

You can make 2 save files and when you start a new save it will either overwrite the top save or make a 3rd. I tested this and it works on the PS3.

Toshiro: What are you talking about? Where's this porn in SKYRIM. I honestly cant see why this game is rated M. Blood/Gore is minimal. Language use is on par with a pixar film. This game is Teen at most. There is a lot worse things on TV. Kids knowing the diffrence between real and fantasy is whats really important. When you say things like there being porn in skyrim it just makes you sound really stupid or really ignorant neither is good.

I really feel for you friend and I know how you feel...

It isn't just kids who do that, I had Pokemon Red, had completed the game (I'd even caught Mewtwo!), my mum decided to play and had created a new game...she saved it (this was before the days of having to delete the game before starting a new one, otherwise you couldn't save the new game). I was absolutely gutted, needless to say my mum was not my favourite person for a while after that.
