Two-Handed: Advice Request

bjb68

Outback Elf (Aussimer?)
I've finally made a two-handed oriented character. I have never done this in any TES game. The concept of losing a hand that could have a shield or spell left a foul taste in my mouth. Fortunately, I'm enjoying the powerful attacks and this style of play. :)

My question is, which style of 2h weapon do you all prefer (Skyrim Only). I mainly ask because I wish to specialize, because the differing perks. I'm torn between Greatswords and Battleaxes. I've always used swords for my melee characters in the past, so I think I'd like to change it up. Additionally, I'm liking the looks of most axes in this game. I also don't notice a great difference between the swing speed or damage done by the two weapon types.

As for the perks: Swords can have a 10/20/30% chance for a critical. Axes can have three levels of bleeding damage. Which of these is better in your opinion?

Any links with stats would help, too.

For Skyrim! :D

I like a Greatsword. It's a little faster than the Axe and you can see around it easier. That said it is fun to jump in the middle of a mess of bad guys swinging a Battleaxe! Makes you feel like a real bada$$

If you want answers when it comes to 2 handed weapons, I am your man...lol. The only time I EVER use anything other than a 2 hand, it is my bow for dragons ONLY. Personally, I can't stand GreatSwords. Now this is my opinion, because of 2 things mainly. First, I just don't get that badass feel with a greatsword that I get with a Warhammer or a Battleaxe. Powerstrikes don't seem as powerful or threatening. Secondly, I don't think that their additional speed makes up for their lack of power compared to the other 2 types. Now I have an Orc that is decked out in the best heavy armor I can get my hands on, and speed is not a priority in my case, however like I said, even if the greatsword was equal in abilities to warhammers and axes, I still wouldnt choose it because it just doesn't have the same berserker feel. Now for my preferences. Currently, I am using an Orcish Warhammer (upgraded to epic, has 53 hit power...pretty good for a level 20 guy if I say so myself). However, battleaxes are a very close second to warhammers. As for perks, I really like the bleeding ability that Axes have down the line, however I value the fact that hammers can ignore armor even higher.

My orc is 2 hand tank. I've been using the Elven Warhammer with frost damage. I decapitating people, lol.

Battleaxes are a good balance between the speed of the great sword and the power of the hammer, my current character has had a Skyforge Battleaxe for 20 or so levels and it has never let me down.

What a coincidence...Castaneda, and o.7, those are the past 2 weapons that I was using. I was using the orcish hammer, then i got the skyforge axe, and i was able to upgrade it to flawless so I used that, then I found the elven hammer, and it was better than both, but then I found out that I could upgrade my orcish hammer to epic. Oh, and all of my weapons were frost enchanted also haha
