Spoiler Views on the Oghma Infinium.

For those that complete the long and enduring quest "Discerning the Transmundane", you are awarded with possibly the best prize in the Vanilla version of Skyrim: The Oghma Infinium. This can only be accomplished after doing the two part quest, one of which requires you of being level 15 or higher.

For those unaware of this prize, the Oghma Infinium is a book that grants +5 to every skill in a certain section. The three sections are:

  • Path of Magic: +5 to Destruction, Restoration, Conjuration, Alteration, Illusion, and Enchanting.
  • Path of Shadow: +5 to Light Armor, Speech, Pickpocket, Sneak, Lockpicking, and Alchemy.
  • Path of Might: +5 to Heavy Armor, Smithing, Two-Handed, Archery, One-Handed, and Block.
However, there is a catch. One you choose a section, the book is destroyed and you can not use it again. This is in exchange for a easy level up or two which is amazing for higher leveled players.

The Glitch

However, thanks to the brilliant detectives of the Skyrim community, a glitch was discovered that allows you to use the book over and over and over, granting level 81 in about 30 minutes or less. I won't tell/show you how to do it here but you can find out on your own.

Views/Opinions?

Personally I find that the book is great for beta testing a build for long term usages or squeaking out those last 11 levels that seem to murder you in cold blood if you don't max out the right perks. Apart from that, I think the book is a great developer tool and hope they never fix the glitch. What about all of you? What do you all think?

I suspect everyone uses the glitch at some time. I also suspect that most find the result to be somewhat boring, since your character now has no further improvements to be made.

I just used it recently (too late for my first two characters)

I particularly liked using it to get extra pockets, since I hardly ever use the pickpocket skill even with my thief character, but you can never have too much space to carry things. I think it's a handy trick if you want to rush through the game and try out different types of characters and unlock certain perks that you feel are taking too long to achieve.

My main character was Level 75, and I really wanted to fight the ebony warrior and the legendary dragon that both require u to be level 81 (I have all dlc's) but I did not want to work hard and spoil my main build of his last half dozen levels, so I got my second character which i never used and done the glitch to do what i wanted to do.

I think it can spoil the game if used just to power a character u like, but if like me and u wanted to fight the ebony warrior and legendary dragon, its a great way to do so especially for the people who are addicts to making new builds when they hit level 20-30, they would benefit from the glitch for sure.

I recently used it a couple of times to get that final lunge for 100 Enchanting. Dang thing takes forevaaaa!

Now my Mage is like level 50 XD

I've used the glitch a few times. Mainly it's so I don't have to go through a lot of quests at a low level and therefore get lamer rewards.

I've heard of the glitch. Never used it personally, I'd have to look up how to do it and I can't be bothered too much.

I haven't used it yet. But I have a level 40 something Orc. I have already worked to get the perks I wanted and done everything the right way. I have deadric armor and weapons all fully enchanted. I have every thing I want. except deadric arrows. I have a few from the the centurions in blackreach as rare random loot. But i'm to low level to buy and find them often. If I use this glitch it will be just for arrows. And not even for the power value, they just look good on my orcs back.

I used it once when I accidentally deleted my main character build (who was around level 55 at the time). Now I keep extra saves so I won't make the same mistake again, and I waited until she was over level 50 in my second playthrough to use the glitch. The way I figure it she would've been damn near max level anyway if I didn't have to start over, and with all the hours I put into that character I just wanted to max my perks out once and for all.

With this glitch, you have to be careful. Going straight through the main quest from the beginning, reaching level 15 and then using the glitch, can cause several problems for you. For one, you don't have the wealth to equip your character properly. So you are a very under-powered high level character, with poor weapons and armor, low level spells, not enough grand soul gems and enchant options, etc.

It also takes all the fun away from the game. Leveling up properly is what provides much of the replay value to any rpg. That's why we see so many posts in the forums where people get bored of Skyrim so quickly. To me, it's obvious that they just used as many exploits as they possibly could, and munchkined their characters out to such a degree that they took all the challenge and replay value out of the game. Either that, or they just aren't into an open-world rpg experience.

Though the equipment problem could be solved by combining it with the Dawnstar chest trick.

I'd never bother. Waste of time. Might as well use commands if that's what I want to do. For the console user, I guess it's a roundabout way of doing the same thing.

Yeah, I don't imagine playing at level 81 would be particularly satisfying to me. But other people like other things in their games.

the book is cursed....open it and you turn into a pumpkin!!!!!!!!!joking.

I do not use it at all, I am not into it. I believe it levels up your skills faster but I dunno.sorry...

I once had a character who was level 81 (not my Elizabeth) and god was it boring DX.

Yeah, I know people have different play styles. But if you just want to glitch and get in the lead early. Skyrim really wasn't made for you. Because all your gonna do is blow though the main (maybe guild and ect..) then get bored. Skyrim was made to be a huge time waster, an enjoyable one.

Also, whats the best location to get falmer blood? Real quick in and out. I don't feel like digging deep in a huge cave to find a single falmer.

Liar's Retreat. Has every blood but Altmer. ;)

I have them all except falmer. Also, I got altmer blood from Elenwen herself. She's killable later in the game.

Yeah Liar's Retreat is a bandit base that got overrun with Falmer. You can literally walk into the place, move down the steps 10 feet in front of you, kill the two-three falmer, get the blood and gtfo.

Thank you. I never cared much for Dwarven ruins, so this helps alot.
