Weird encounter at Halted Stream

Has anyone else had this experience?

So, my level 16 Altmer warrior/mage heads out to Halted Stream to pick up the Amren Family Sword and pick up the usual items one gets from there.

No problems: ran in to the usual cadre of whomevers out near the Eastern Watchtower (in this case a group of bandits and 2 necromancers) and 2 wolves. No problem.

Then I get to the rocks overlooking the camp and start my usual range attacks to soften 'em up, when I notice that there seem to be a heck of a lot more folks around than usual.

In the end it was 3 (count 'em 3!) bandit chiefs, 9 bandits + the usual 4 from Halted, a group of Thalmor (the usual 3) and group of Stormcloak Soldiers (3 I think). Let me tell ya, that trick of storing all the loot in a chest at the site came in handy so that I could pick it up later. I 1/2 expected there to be no one inside the mine, but, of course the usual were there.

Now don't get me wrong, since I use adept for the first 20 levels, although it was a tough fight, I did prevail. Still, what, was there a bandit conference or something?

Weird. Anyone else experience anything like this?

Ya just never know. My all time favorite is when wolves and sabre cats team up. Talk about the truth about cats and dogs!

I have seen a pair of giants attack Halted Stream Camp once or twice. It was hilarious to see bandits launched waaaayyyyy up

I have no idea why the giants decided to attack the camp, or where did they come from, but it was something to witness.

Well... I know where they came from (there are two giant camps close by), but have never seen that. To me, the funniest has been twice now that dragons have attacked halted stream as I arrive. I usually just sit up on the rocks above the camp and see who kills whom first! Great show.

Sounds like the normal patrols, one of bandits, one of Stormcloaks, and one of Thalmor just crossed paths with the group normally at the camp... too bad you couldn't record the event!!!

Actually it's too bad that I couldn't repeat it! It certainly was profitable.

Well, technically you could grab a ton of corpses, bring them to a spot, then use the Ritual Stone and a Frenzy spell to kick it all off again?

Yeah, but those two camps were still populated by giants even though the two who attacked the camp were still in the camp. The giants seemed to have spawned near the camp, and attacked.

Funny you say this. Last time I swung by Halted Stream for my usual iron loot (god why do I enjoy Hearthfire so much?) it was weird, I usually just come walking up hurling magic into the gate only this time there was like twenty people in and out of the camp and they all seemed to jump me at the same time. I just assume they were some group of bandits that happened to be wandering by but that seemed odd too since I didn't fast travel and I always scan the terrain when I'm approaching someplace and I didn't see squat until I got wolf packed at the gates. Felt like I was ambushed.

The closest I ever came to something like this was going to Silent Moons Camp to get that same sword. I think it was Silent Moons anyway, one near Whiterun which is mostly in the open and near a giant and mammoth camp. I shot one arrow at the nearest guard when a dragon suddenly engulfed me in flame and epic battle music. The two giants and two mammoths nearby came charging over, and I ran for my life to avoid being trampled as I was low level. I watched as the giants and mammoths took down the dragon, then to my astonishment they all charged into Silent Moon Camps and destroyed everything that moved. Basically the entire dungeon was three quarters cleared for me after shooting one arrow.

Another neat trick is to get the mammoths and giants to actually chase you to either Halted Stream or Silent Moons. I don't know why they're attention gets diverted by the bandits, but it does. It also works well for Fort Greymoor, but not always as sometimes the giants won't come inside the walls.
