Well I am 23 hours into my newest character, level 17. I go to Solitude for the first time for the Diplomatic Immunity quest. I stay at the inn for a night, go out the next day, sell some items, and buy a ring from the Radiant Raimant.
I walk outside to find one of the elves that runs Radiant Raimant (name starts with a T, can't remember exactly), dead in the streets of Solitude. Anyways, I walk into the inn again to talk to Malborn, give him my items, etc. When I try to walk back out into Solitude, the game freezes at the loading screen and I have to kill it through task manager.
This happens after entering any building after I found the elf dead in the streets. Doesn't have to be the Winking Skeever. The game freezes at the loading screen.
Anyways, after some google searching, I removed the textures, meshes, and scripts folder from my Skyrim/Data directory. I am then able to get back out into Solitude. Once I was able to load Solitude again, I put my textures/meshes/scripts folder back where they should be, and all seems to be working. I went in and out of a few buildings in Solitude and it all worked.
Not sure what happened here. I do have mods, but I run BOSS and keep them all cleaned with TES5Edit. It does seem that some people have had issues with freezes/crashes in and around Solitude from searching online.
Anyone ever seen this before? I am now afraid to do much in Solitude because I don't want to risk corrupting my saves. Like I said, everything seems fine now once I got past it initially, but it was very strange behavior which I haven't seen in 300+ hours of playing this game.
