What if you made a broken Amulet of Talos amulet?

LotusEater

I brake for blue butterflies
Holy redundancy in the title... anyway

I'm talking about using the exploit to grant little/no Shout cooldown. What would you do to hobble your build to achieve some balance?

I'm contemplating a Shoutmaster type build but I won't do it unless I can figure a good and realistic way to handicap the build sufficiently. Looking for opinions.

Broken amulets? Blasphemy!

Ok, back to seriousness; Shoutmaster builds are kinda tricky because you can't use them as your only defense. I suppose I'd train One-Handed additionally because somehow I picture a Shoutmaster to be a knight, epic and stuff, but that's just my personal preference. ;)

I know right. I was almost afraid to open this thread. :)

Gotta go no armor for sure. No weapons other than perhaps a dagger or mace. Unperked Destruction for early game survival. Alteration. I'm looking at the Greybeards as a loose model. Like maybe the messiah Greybeard (ME!) was picked up at the border as he was walking the... Tamriel and now he's laying low, judging Skyrim and those who run it.

Great idea! --- and the Greybeards always struck me as just about as close as you could get to a monastic order of some kind in Skyrim; they're obviously infused with the 'mysticism' of the Voice, they have their isolated dwelling on the mountaintop, and their devotion to the study and contemplation of the Way of the Voice. Your character 'walking the World' in contemplation, armed only with his body and his Thu'um, make for an interesting monk-ish kind of character. Maybe unarmed only is a way to provide a handicap?

Thanks! My thought is that he will follow the Main Quest until he hears the call and then head to Hrothgar and learn his purpose. From that point on it will be a matter of walking the Skyrim gauntlet, gathering Shouts and killing only hostile dragons. Paarth lives this playthrough! I plan on only killing as many dragons as needed to unlock my Shouts and will deal with Miraak and his blatant misuse of dragon souls in due course... sparing the life of a further 10 dragons. Once Alduin is dead, no more dragon killing period. I will use Bend Will on all hostile dragons. Destroy the Dark Brotherhood will be on the agenda for sure. I've always wanted to do that. Maybe save the College. Ulfric must pay of course, for his blatant misuse of The Voice.

I'm thinking that if I forego all crafting and never wear armor, no Conjuration and no Illusion (except perhaps Calm, Pacify, etc.), I should be able to find a good balance with a broken Amulet of Talos.

Not sure if it would be better to go Alteration/Restoration or Alteration/Passive Illusion

i always mod my saves using the pc version when i want 0 shout recovery on a character, it doesn't really make you op'ed imo even if you spam shouts cause using shouts will only take you so far, most don't do any damage at all and are mainly for stunning enemies.. i personally enjoy playing like that sometimes, its great to do when your tired of quest searching and just wanna cause a lot of mayhem for laughs..

How do you 'break' an amulet of talos? just mods?
im on ps3...

Also Lotus check this out: http://theskyrimblog.ning.com/group...haracter-build-master-monk?xg_source=activity

It may not be exactly what your after but i can near guarantee you will get some ideas.

The easiest way I've found is to run the Restoration loop exploit while wearing an amulet until you get the numbers down and never take the amulet off after that. Which wouldn't be a big deal since it would be awesome.

Thanks for the link.

Through a PC mod I have unlimited shouts. I have played normally while using the shouts as I desire. Honestly I have not felt bad about spamming a shout here or there because of the major advantages the creatures have over me. Mages can negate a shout by their use of the ward spells, plus they spam electricity faster then you can when casting a spell. Dragons can shout fire/frost over and over again. As mentioned above those shouts that do damange do not knock back. So you run the risk of the enemy closing the distance to you and smacking you around. I would certainly allow for a shield when playing if your going no armor and barely a weapon. One thing to think of regarding weapons is perhaps conjuring your sword, dagger, etc.
re-reading your opening post, your automatically thinking the shouts are overpowered. I would start just using them before handicapping and from your experience adjust how you feel. I think you will find the shouts just aren't as powerful as you think. Especially if you intend to kill via shout only.

not only can mages spam destruction blasts twice as fast as you, they also ALL have unlimited magicka, ever notice when you break their ward they IMMEDIATELY throw it back up? thats cause unlike you they don't have a magicka bar and not only is their spell usage unlimited but the one's who use potions have infinite of those as well, i found this out the hard way one time in Drelas's cottage near whiterun, i wanted him dead so i could use his home for enchanting purposes but couldn't beat him, so after dying on him like a hundred times i said screw this! and enchanted a ring and necklace with both unlimited health and magicka, walked in with fireball spell and started blasting away, well i STILL couldn't kill him!! it was an endless battle where neither of us were dying, the reason i noticed was cause whenever i drained his health down to a certain point he'd use a damn healing potion which he NEVER ran out of! this fire fight literally went on for well over an hour before my thumbs got so tired i gave up.. finally had to exploit smith a sword over a thousand hp just to kill the asshole. so no! i absolutely do NOT feel bad about spamming shouts.. lol

You guys are right, it's not nearly as game breaking as I originally thought. Though I imagine that could change once I start spamming things like Soul Tear, Drain Vitality and Marked for Death.

My favorite combo so far is Cyclone+Unrelenting Force. If you time it right you can actually launch people. Hilarious.
