OOC What Lurks in the Dark

So guys, sorry for the wait. There's more to Arok's backstory, but I expect it'll come out around a campfire or something. I'll reveal some of it here, though. Hope you enjoy :) And Aethalia, lemme know what you think :)

Name: Arok gro-Urzog

Race: Orc

Gender: Male

Age: 29

Class: Warrior

Alignment: Neutral Good

Appearance: See below, although note this picture was from a PS3 play-through in which he was the Dragonborn, so he has very limited knowledge of the Blades, etc for this RP. :)

He's very clean-cut and refined when compared to most Orcs, and his hair is carefully braided at the back.

***************************************************************************

Weapons:
A slightly longer than standard sword, made of the best Skyforge Steel - with flecks of silver worked into the edge to give a small boost to damage to the undead, also with a simply carved hilt. A gift from Eorlund Gray-Mane after Arok completed a personal favour. He also has a normal Skyforge dagger tucked into a pocket in his boot, just in case.

Armour:
He is currently wearing his trusty normal-looking Steel armour, which has been tempered over time with use and although it is now showing signs of wear, it is no less useful than it was when he bought it six years ago. It is adapted slightly, to give extra warmth and security to the elbows and knees, and to sit properly with his Steel Plate boots and gauntlets. He prefers not to wear a helmet, but does wear a leather and fur hood in wet or cold weather. He also keeps a dark hooded cloak in his pack, for times of extreme cold or rain. He also carries a Steel Shield, which is pretty basic, but slightly heavier than normal to give added protection.

Bio:
Arok is what some would describe as a "city Orc." Growing up in Cheydinhal, Arok enjoyed a fairly privileged lifestyle for most of his childhood, living as the adopted child of a wealthy Imperial trader and his wife. The adoption came about by the family's relationship with Arok's parents. His mother had known Isabella, Arok's adopted mother, since their childhood, and although they grew up to lead very different lives, they kept in touch as Arok's mother worked as a housekeeper for the family. That was until she was taken ill, and soon died due to events which will probably come out in the RP.

Arok's father, Urzog, was an Imperial Legion soldier. He was held in high regard, and while he was allowed the opportunity to grieve and raise Arok by the Legion, he soon came to the conclusion his son would be better off living with Isabella, her husband Martin, and their two sons. This was a hard decision, but one he made out of love - the Legion was practically all he'd ever known, and the skills he had simply did not help him be a single parent to an inquisitive young Orc. After all, Arok saw the Imperial family as his own, and took to the idea well.

And so it was. Arok learned and lived alongside his new adoptive brothers in a loving and wealthy home. He was tutored by the family steward, Bastio, in history and religion, taught about the divines and the daedra, and learned to wield a sword with the boys, surpassing them quickly. He kept in touch with his father by writing, and they shared stories and spent much time together when Urzog was on leave.

Eventually, Urzog told Arok the truth about his mother's death, and Arok left for Skyrim to avenge her. Shortly after crossing the border, however, he was ambushed by bandits and robbed of his one of a kind weapons, armour and all his valuables, and left unconscious and bloody by the side of the road. He still bears the scar on his cheek from that night.

He spent a number of weeks recovering and earning coin by chopping wood for the nearby lumber mill, before heading to the city and looking for work of a more profitable and adventurous nature.

Over the last few years, Arok has successfully avenged his mother's death, rooted out evil magicks and undead from many dark corners of Skyrim, helped kill dragons, protected Dwemer researchers, and explored the province, making many friends and acquaintances along the way. He has worked with or for many organisations in some form or another, including the Companions, the Orc Strongholds, the Imperial Legion, and Jarls themselves at one time or another. Despite amassing a decent amount of coin, he still hasn't found the place to call home, so continues to work and travel while he is still gifted with youth and energy, and thirst for a challenge.

Personality:
Despite his large stature, Arok is positively reserved and sophisticated - for an Orc. His manner is more like a typical Imperial soldier, carrying a sense of righteousness and sometimes even superiority over some he deems lesser than him. Overall though, Arok is good-natured and enjoys good company with honest people with a sense of honour and of course, a sense of humour. He tries to view all races without prejudice, considering the fact that he has been mistreated in the past for his heritage. He is very proud of his roots, and although he doesn't necessarily worship the gods, they are part of his thought processes. He secretly holds Talos in high regard, and respects and follows the teachings of the daedra, Malacath. He tries to act in a noble and considered way on most occasions, but he has been known to let his temper get the better of him.

He dislikes those who wield unfair and unjust control over others, for example the Black-Briars and Silver-Bloods, this also includes the Thalmor, for whom he has inherited his disdain distrust from his father. He has a special dislike for unnatural beings, especially Vampires. He also dislikes those who prey on those less fortunate, such as the Thieves Guild and bandits in general.

Other notes:
Arok also has some modest skills in Restoration magic, with the ability to patch up his wounds and those of others if it is the best option at the time. He doesn't readily share this information though, as he would prefer to be known for his skills with a blade.

No kidding Shaded :D Although I think Shadari won't be learning much else about Salthar until later into the story. Hey, Longest.

Ugh, God I'm soo tired. Guess that's what happens when you stay up late marking tests, and have to get up at six AM....so. Who wants to post next?

Real quick, cause I have to leave but: BlackWhite, I liked your post, but how are you planning on getting into the main group?

By my count, we've got three Nords, and two vampire hunters....oh, Salthar's going to absolutely love you.

Aethalia, I am working on my CC now. Question, though- how long after the Civil War is this RP taking place? (If anyone besides Aethalia knows feel free to answer)

The roleplay is set in 4E 210, and the war started around 4E 201/202 (I think ) so around eight years later.

Oh my goodness... this is SO long. I apologize, I think I got carried away. On second thought... I DEFINITELY got carried away. But anyway, here is my CC. I'll make my first post shortly.

Back story:

Elyzona grew up as the daughter of two farmers, as a native of Skyrim. She lived in a very small town, compared to much of the land, named Ivarstead. The name of their farm was Fellstar. Her parents had always supported the Empire, and credited the relative success of their farm to the structure and ease the Empire provided them. Elyzona always wondered if their modest success was due to being the only farm in the area, but she never questioned her parent’s motives. Elyzona was not one for adventuring as a child and young teen; she was content with the prospect of eventually inheriting her parent’s farm, finding a suitable husband, and maybe having a couple of kids. Even when the other children who were around her age discussed the Civil War, who they supported and why, Elyzona would typically walk away from the discussion. She cared not for things that did not involve harvesting crops and tending to her farm animals. She liked simple, and farming was just that- simple. The only interest outside of farming that Elyzona held was the Magical School of Conjuration. She found she had quite a knack for it, and often summoned Flame Atronach’s to assist her in her hunting. She didn’t mind getting her hands dirty, but she was a bit squeamish around blood.

When Elyzona was 18, the Civil War had been going on for six years. She had little regard for the goings-on of the war, and truly had no idea who was winning. All she knew was that a man named Ulfric shouted someone apart at the start of it all, and that he wanted to Free the Nords. One warm day, she was out picking crops, when an unfamiliar man exited their local Inn. He looked around, surveying his surroundings, as if wondering what his next step should be. His sea-green eyes locked onto Elyzona’s sky-blue ones; for several long seconds, their gaze remained as such: strong and unbroken.

The strange man came over to her. Ely realized he was a Nord, and came to find out he was only two years older than herself and that his name was Sor. Through several weeks of coming to know one another, Ely found that Sor’s name suited him; short, to the point, with an aura of determination. Through the weeks they spent together, Sor helping with her farm chores, he spoke often of his passion of the Stormcloaks, of his allegiance to Ulfric. He explained his stance, and for once in her life, Elyzona listened to him. She was smitten. Love at first sight.

Though she listened, she often ignored his pleas for Ely to join him in the Rebellion. She explained to him time and time again that her parent’s would disown her- she would lose the farm. Sor always nodded, sadness staining his soft eyes. The day finally came when Sor had to depart, and return to his life of being a Soldier. Ely knew she could not live without him, and that to be without Sor would mean never finding true love again. Elyzona finally agreed to join him in the rebellion. She spent the next two years learning to wield a Dagger given to her by Sor, a beautiful, sturdy one made of Dwarven materials. She fought as best as she could, despite her initial reluctance to kill. Though she found the more time she spent with the Rebellion Ranks, the more passionate she became, and her passion desensitized her to violence. Her eyes that were once filled with the innocence of a young Doe slowly changed; they took on the appearance of a Wolf. Beautiful still in their own way, but hardened. Intense.

A terrible day came, near the very end of the war. Sor fell. Her beautiful, strong man was brought to his demise by an Imperial. Elyzona fought harder than she ever had before, summoning her Atronach and slicing Sor’s killer to bits. The remaining Stormcloak soldiers left her to weep over her great loss. In that moment, Elyzona knew she would never truly love again. After allowing herself a few days to grieve, she continued to fight with the Stormcloaks. A few short weeks later, the war was lost. Ulfric, the High King, was dead. She fought to hide her feelings that her loss of Sor was all for naught. She spent one last night with her fellow Soldiers before saying farewell, only explaining that she would be needed elsewhere someday, and that she must honor Sor’s life. She traveled to the College of Winterhold, spending several months refining her Conjuration skills. She could now produce a much stronger Flame Atronach, and always declined learning the ways of the Frost. She felt the flames of the Atronach kept the fire inside her real, kept her focused. She learned to wield a Bound Sword, in addition to her Dwarven Dagger. She became a substantial opponent, coming far from her days as a simple Farmer’s Daughter.

One night at the Frozen Hearth, Ely struck a conversation with a barmaid. She was informed of strange disappearances in the far-away town of Falkreath. She almost dismissed the notion of traversing the harsh land to investigate, but she realized that’s not what Sor would do. Sor would make the journey, find the cause, and extinguish it. With that realization came her decision. She went back to her room at the College, exchanging her delicate robes for basic Leather armor, knowing she would need the extra protection. She made the harrowing journey, finally reaching the town. Knowing she would find her purpose and a way to honor Sor’s fighting spirit.

Still room for more?

Hey there. When deciding to join this RP, I kind of had in mind that your character would approach mine to discuss the bounty. I am posting my intro right now- do you think you could have him approach me? If not that's totally cool, I can figure something else out instead.
