What race should I be?

I just started my first game ever in skyrim. I played oblivion and i played alot of it. I look to use a bow and arrow and also to used one handed weapons with shields. I think Kajhats and Agorians look cool but arent the best choices. So what do you think

It is the least important choice you will make.

Seriously. Pick the one that looks the coolest. The skill bonuses will only give you an edge early on, and you won't use the racials much as you think.

90% doesnt matter. But for the bit that does matter...

Breton has 25% magic resist and on master level magic is usually the reason I die. Some mage hiding in a hole in the wall zaps me when Im fighting something else. that being said, you can have 50% magic absorb from guardian stone, 30% magic absorb from alteration tree capping you out at 80% absorb and an extra 30% magic resist(different from absorb) from the alteration tree. Thats not even counting magic resist enchantments.

In light of that I prefer orcs. 60 seconds you take half damage and deal double damage good for boss fights when its needed most. And once your magic resist is maxed out and breton doesnt matter anymore this will still be useful. I dont know if the half damage stacks on top of the capped 80% damage reductions. But double damage will still work

Oh and orcs make for convincing looking vampire avatars. Pale skin, red eye star tatoo, bald head good to go

Choose a race that will fit with the kind of character you will play, choose a khajitt if you're going to play a pure assassin, because they start out with sneak skills and their racial ability lets you see better in the dark. Choose an orc of you're going to play a berserker warrior, because they start out with warrior skills and their racial ability doubles your damage and halves your damage taken. What really counts is the racial ability (and resistances, e.g. nords are 50% resistant to cold, bretons are 25% resistant to magic damage, etc.), each race starts out with certain skills, but you can get those skills up even if you're a different race.

Orcs and Argonians are the best for melee, High Elf the best for the mage, Khajiit for thief.

Depends on if you want someone who is good with magic, thief, etc. But when I got Skyrim I didn't focus on that. Personally, I am a redguard.

I have an Orc and love it for mele fighting. The only downside is the main storyline and the civil war storyline make a lot more sense if you play a Nord. Its just the way it was written.

Doesn't really matter what race, only the racials that they have. Orcs have it pro. Their ability makes everything 4x easier for a minute.

Redguard has bonuses to archery, one handed, and block. Nords have one handed and block too.

i don't use my argonian thief's water breathing as much as I thought I would..kind of disappointed with that..hes a good thief none the less and the poison resists helps.. I hardly ever use his racial ability.

I took a break from my breton mage and recently fell in love with him again when I maxed out conjuration..since I kept killing my followers those [insert flavor] thrall spells help a LOT.

I tried making a altmer mage but I got too spoiled with my brenton's magic resist that I kept dying all the time being reckless...I might give it a go again sometime when I tire of my brenton again.

Oh yeah.. that orc's racial ability is great. My sword and board was able to take down and take a beating from 3 two handed wielding attackers at once wit that...thart and I take some grim satisfaction shield bashing the enemy when I attack over my two handed light armor nord femme fatale.

Race doesn't matter at all, at least not the skill bonuses (easy enough to raise/"cheat" legitimately) if anything go off the constant racials. My favorite/recommended (outside of roleplaying)

dunmer- 50% fire resistance
nord- 50% frost resistance
breton- 25% magic resistance

what I did was go with a dunmer assasin, and now i use the nightingale. The perk to what i did is that i now have a 50% resistance to both frosts (nighitngale) and fire (racial) which makes dragons and mages a lot easier.

On top of that, after you get your levels where your comfortable switch your activated stone (just search lovers stone and follow links to to main page) to the lord's stone which adds 25% magic resistance.

So for me....

dunmer
75% fire resistance
75% frost resistance
25% shock/other magics

So thats why i vote for either of those races.
