okay so I just finished building out Windstad on my current playthrough and I need to vent because everyone keeps saying it's underrated or whatever, but the actual footprint of that place is a nightmare. Like, the fish hatchery is cool I guess, but you end up with this stretched-out mess where your main hall is basically disconnected from everything else. I ended up having to route all my storage into the hatchery building just to make it feel less scattered.
Lakeview and Heljarchen both let you cluster stuff around a central courtyard. Windstad just forces you to walk across the map to get to your alchemy station. And don't even get me started on trying to fit a trophy room anywhere without it looking like an afterthought bolted onto the side.
Am I just bad at planning these things or does Windstad actually have a worse layout than people admit? Like I get that the location is great for hunting and fishing, but I'd trade that for a homestead that doesn't feel so strung out.
