Witch one of the nine towns in skyrim do you base out of? If you picked "other" please post where and why... I'm based out of Riften on my thief character so I can be close to the guild.

Most people would operate out of Whiterun because its least expensive, more vendors and two blacksmiths. Enchancter is only in Dragonsreach so its the idle place to be.

Yep. Money isn't an issue now, but practically speaking I don't see the need to get a second house. I also love the fact that the blacksmith has the forge as well, and that fast travel to Whiterun puts you seconds away from your home & the smith. I'll fast travel from the Jarl of Whiterun to Whiterun just because it's quicker than trooping through the city!

Its the easiest to operate from overall. I would just stick to Whiterun, I do :)

Whiterun. I spent all my gold levelling up smithing and cant afford to buy a house anywhere else. Finding gold a lot harder to come by than it was in Oblivion. Level 29 and I'm absolutely skint. :-(

Whiterun too... Though I hope that one day I have enough dough to buy the house in Solitude. I was in there already and it is truly amazing.

Whiterun here. It seems to be the most convenient. I have the perk to sell anything to anyone, so having the 2 smiths plus the Drunken Huntsman right there is very nice. I bought the house in Solitude but aside from moving some items I had stored in Whiterun, I don't really use it.

Having all the smithing stuff right there is great. Add in the apothecary, general goods and the Skyforge blacksmith, and there's a ton of places to sell your stuff to merchants who carry the higher amount of coin.

↑↑↑ I have to agree. I want to move to Solitude because there's more room for storage and mannequins, ect, but it's just so convenient in Whiterun to sell stuff. I love the house in Solitude and the one in Markarth is cool too, but I basically only use those two for the mannequins and weapon racks. If Solitude had closer vendors, especially outside ones so I wouldn't have to load a shop for every one, a more convenient smith, a smelter, ect, it would be the ideal place to live, but until Bethesda changes that, Whiterun will be where my heart, or gold, lays :D

Riften has your home right next to a pawnbroker, which is next to a blacksmith, who is next to 3 stall vendors, which is across the street from the castle mage. If you jump to the bottom level you have an alchemist shop right underneath you, pretty much. Has literally everything but a smelter.

Whiterun is my choice, but it's a rather simple home.
Reasons:
1. Centrally located.
2. Ease of access. Minimal walking from gate to home, blacksmith and other vendors.
3. It's the cheapest.
4. Better climate.

I lived in Whiterun for ages but found it too small and cramped. After finishing the Stormcloaks Civil War and being appointed Thane of Windhelm I moved there and I love it. It's big and spacious for my extended family and I have a place to do my Alchemy and Enchanting in privacy. There is lots of shelves for my Wine Collection and lots of book cases for my volumes of books. I have quite the household with my Housecarl, Wife, Dog, and my Companion Athis. Plus if you Fast Travel to the palace you are a short distance to your house.

I left Breezehome an absolute mess, with liquor bottles all over the floor and old books piles up in a room. I am not to concerned with Vendors myself and I found Whiterun and it's citizens were getting pretty stale.

the main reason im still in whiterun is because i am too lazy to move all of my items... ill grab a follower and make a few trips one day

I, Conan being a rogue, I don't favor any town really. I do rest my tired bones at Riverwood allot...At least till I find my way back to Hyboria!

Windhelm for me for the most part. Mainly because of the secret room(when researching houses I saw it had one and knew it was the home for me) and I like being able to display all of my faction armor as well.. I do own ever home in Skyrim that can be bought, mostly because I wanted the Thane title so I could tell the guards to piss off if I was caught padding my income :p
