That's really sad..

Hello there folks.
I've seen the progress of Skyrim since it's release and I really must say one thing , don't take this as another whine or something like that , I really feel that I must tell this.
It's so sad seeing the way people play the game , everyone shouts at me "PEOPLE CAN PLAY THE WAY THEY WANT" , but really.
What I mostly see in videos and comments are "LOLZ! I can one-shot legendary dragonz with my super magical daedrik daggers when I'm level 81 !!" , or I see people who enter their inventory and take 15 potions one after another and then change their whole armor in the middle of the fight.
Seriously , this is a ROLE-PLAYING game !!! , why do I see 5 normal people who are Role-Playing and the other 50,000 who take this game as CoD ?
The way people play does matter , after Bethesda see how people play TES they will remove EVEN MORE complex systems , " Oh hey you don't want story ? OK! here have level 200 cap ".

Tell me what do you think.

disagree, i love enchanting/crafting/smithing unique & all powerful gear, so what i only have to hit the attack button twice dual weilding my legendary, double enchanted dragon blades to kill a lenendary dragon on hard?

You know craftings a as valid a skill as fighting or magic & if your so in to realistic role playing & the idea of pausing and equiping items in the middle of a fight so repulsive, explain to me why restarting from a previous save is so much more rewarding & worthy when the game decides to hand you your ass?

To each his own. I personally prefer roleplaying because it helps me stay interested in the game and makes it feel more realistic and meaningful to me.

I do sometimes drink a potion during a fight. I try to sheathe weapons and run away to do it but sometimes I don't.

You didn't get my point , on the other hand , dying in Skyrim can be handled with Role-Playing in many methods ( DiD , saving on sleep , etc )
I'm not talking about getting strong ( and mostly OP ) weapons and armor , I'm talking about the overall approach to Skyrim.

I have to respectfully disagree.

  1. People can play however they want. What business is it of anyone's how someone plays a video game in the privacy of their own home? Personally, I like RP'ing, but I know plenty of people who don't. Who cares?

  2. People who take a bunch of potions or change armor in the middle of the fight are just playing by using the tools Bethesda gave them. Basically, see point #1.

  3. "The way people play does matter , after Bethesda see how people play TES they will remove EVEN MORE complex systems , " Oh hey you don't want story ? OK! here have level 200 cap "... I really don't think that would ever happen. As you said, this is technically an RPG; I don't see Bethesda saying "Oh well! Let's throw all the rules out the window." They'd have a lot of angry RP'ers on their hands.

I will say this, I had a friend who got bored with the game because he could one-hit kill a dragon. When I told him I couldn't do that, he told me I was playing it wrong. My response? "No, it sounds to me like you are."

I would ideally like to think that my unrealistically smexy character could down a 2000-pound reptile with one arrow, but that's just going overboard IMO. I like my characters to have flaws. Keeps the game interesting.

People will play the game the way they want. Some see Mario Bros, others might as well be characters in a Tolkien novel.

Every single person who buys the game contributes to the franchise and makes the next game more likely, and more likely to be even more awesome.

I say, Let 'em play however they want.

Oh wow how stupid I am , I really forgot about this one , but you know , Bethesda saw that the players of Oblivion in Europe ( poll I guess ) were mostly playing in third person.
And what we got in Skyrim ? Forced third person in every corner.. ( True Story )

But yeah , I'm really relieved now , thank you for pointing that out. :D

The flaws in the overarching story of Skyrim are what makes it truly unique..

My truly flawed character is certainly unique!

Indeed. History is full of biases, revisions, outright fraudulent claims and documents, and flaws. That the Elder Scrolls universe even tries to mirror that is truly what makes it an enchanting game.

That and the fact that, when I want to, I can suit up in my best armor and take my best weapon, and friggin one hit a dragon into Oblivion! ;)

not sure what the whole idea of RPGing is (dont really play them though) however if its the idea that your character should be limited to fight into the world he exists (small man vs massive flying lizard) then i think the way i plays clearly the truest......i mean i am the Dovahkin, i killed the world slayer, in game time over a year ago now, and he was the Alpha Dragon, Baddest of the Bad Assess, of course i can swat the rest of them down like gnats when they challange me.....Legendary Dragons? Bah! they were just world eater minions & i Pwned Him!

Forced third person at every corner? What? I almost never, ever, go into third person.

Anyway, I don't see how you can't role-play and down 15 potions and change your armor in the middle of battle. I like to roleplay, but if I'm in a battle and I'm about to die, I'm going to drink some health potions. I don't see why I can't. I'm not going to just let myself die just so I can keep it realistic.

It's like the people that say that God and evolution can't coexist. They certainly can.

It seems like you're saying people have the right to play how they like, and then explaining why they shouldn't play how they like. Unless they're downright cheating, they can do whatever they want. And the things you listed in the OP are not cheating.

Play the game how you want to. Not every rpg is going to be hardcore nor is every one going to be a casual walk in the park. Some games present more opportunities to role play as a character in the world. Some not as much. Role playing is never a requirement when playing a rpg. They just may provide the tools for you to be able to should you wish to take advantage of them.

Moral of the story: Play how you want and let people experience Skyrim and the Elder scrolls in their own ways.

This franchise opened up RPGs to me when Oblivion was released. I have never played any form before that, call me lazy or intolerant of stringent rules.

I do, however like to challenge myself, and therefore when I hear of other RPGers suggesting/recommending stricter applications of the tools available I will consider it, apply them myself, or dismiss them as too oppressive. On the other hand, I think those that build their character w cheats and exploits aren't in it for the challenge, merely to smite anything and everything. And that doesn't work for me either.

I do resist strenuously when someone tells me i'm doing it wrong, makes me want to dig in my heels and argue 'til all of Tamriel is united under an Orc regency (meaning, never). Not a way to reason with me and allow me to see your point of view. I'm not telling you that you are taking this way too seriously, in fact I respect many that follow strict guidelines and have followed a couple blogs and their characters adventures.

I just don't want to die, and if the RULES dictate I have to throw my character away and start from scratch I'll resist. I don't have time to construct a highly detailed back story when I'm already dealing with my own life in the physical world, after my wife and son go to sleep I want to wander around dungeons/forts slicing and dicing bandits and necromancers. Am I missing my Orc characters raison d'etre, his motivation? No, my motivation is his.

I spent 60 dollars on this game and ill be damned if your gonna tell me how to play it. I have a roleplay character and an as you put it COD type character. Most of the time I play as the COD guy. If I get bored of that I do the RP guy. What do you care?

Um, they Force Third Person when you sit, they Force Third Person when you chop wood, and they force third person when you make a silly dagger.

However everything else they are not forceing Third person on you in this game. lol

There might be a day, who knows, but it wasn't on 11.11.11 when this game hit the shelves.

I don't think Bethesda will disgrace us role-players. I think they will keep in mind that the Elder Scrolls is in fact under the "role-playing" category. And I think it's just natural for gamers to dissect the game so that they become the best at everything - after all, human nature pushes us to become the best at everything.

Imagine you're about to eat a delicious cake. But then someone tells you to smash the cake with a baseball bat and you do it. You like it so you continue smashing it, until you suddenly realize that you could have eaten that cake instead of desecrating it. Of course, you could still eat the cake in it's broken form, but would it be so enjoyable as when it were nice and beautiful? Sure, the first time you do it it will be fun and all, but then after a while you realize maybe it would be a better idea to just eat the cake normally.

But then again, they payed 60 dollars (or pounds/euro's/etc.) for Skyrim so they can do whatever they want with it.

Gaaahhhhh!!!! Don't force your ideas and prejudices on others . Everyone should play ANY WAY they want, even if it sounds wierd or even improper to others.
