A plea on behalf of console players of Skyrim

I play Skyrim on the PC and enjoy a vast array of modded gaming improvements which I now cannot play without such as:

Deadly Dragons
Cloaks
Viking armour
Viking weapons
Multiple followers
Mounted followers
Portable campsites
Basic Needs
Marry all NPC's
Increase height
Mage NPC's that have working AI

and a whole raft of other modding options that I haven't yet taken advantage of.

Modders have show the game can support these features so please Bethesda can you make them available to my console playing friends who are languishing in Vanilla Hell?

If anyone on the forum knows a way for console player to access features similar to these please let me know so I can pass on such precious advice?

Cheers,

Laz3456

Hello SkyrimShieldSword,

Couldn't they package the features in an update or free DLC for console players, judging from your pic not?

I am still baffled as to why people buy the console version even in the face of repeated warnings from their PC only friends that game improvements are so limited?

Cheers,

Uh, maybe because not everyone has a computer that can run Skyrim? I don't know about you, but I'd much rather play Skyrim on XBOX 360 where it runs perfectly and looks gorgeous without mods, than on my four-year-old laptop where it lags every two seconds and the graphics look like mush... just so I could have, what? Some cloaks and viking armor? No thanks.

The simple answer is in many cases that they already have the PS3/Xbox 360 but don't have a PC that can run Skyrim, and are willing to spend $60 for the game, but not $1,000+ for a computer that can.

Would it be that difficult to produce a mods-only DLC for Xbox ?
It wouldn`t have to be one that changes game mechanics or adds new areas , just one that has new armor/clothes/weapons or additional options on already existing templates like marriageable NPC.

Because I am poor, unemployed, and only have my 360 to amuse me. My laptop is a piece of crap that can barely handle the art programs I install on it.

Mmm...mods are more than just new capes. They're adding new areas, improving functionality, fixing bugs that Bethesda hasn't gotten to yet, extending the life of the game, shaping the game exactly how you want to play, having a good laugh and there are plenty of them that even improve the graphics on lower-end computers.

I didn't have a choice in the matter when it came to console or PC - I've never owned a gaming system in my life and can't afford one now. But I've never been disappointed about my decision. I guess the trade-off between better graphics and better gameplay is a choice that everyone has to make upon purchasing Skyrim.

And I've never owned a gaming PC, and can't afford one now. I grew up on consoles, going back to the days of NES. While PC owners might get the mods, 360 owners get the DLC first. It's a fine trade off.

There's always something to be said about being able to play while siting on a couch

True, true. But there's also more to be said about being able to move your gaming location to a library or a cafe or to the other side of the state on a whim.

Yea, if your gaming PC is a laptop. Which tend to be even more money than a desktop.

and also having people stare at you because your playing skyrim in f***ing starbucks

I know, but that doesn't change the fact that my laptop simply can't run Skyrim in a way that would be enjoyable for me to play, regardless of how many great mods there are out there. If I could play on PC, I would. But it's not about choice for a lot of people, as the OP quite foolishly implied.

I would certainly agree, I have a laptop that runs arena, daggerfall and morrowind just fine but for oblivion and skyrim I have to use my good ole xbox 360

Ok, fair enough I see where you’re all coming from with regards to cost for the console vs a gaming PC.

Getting Dawnguard a month later would bother me if my gaming experience wasn't constantly evolving and every time I thought "wouldn't it be great if there was X feature" and every time there is a mod that does it and sometimes even better than you expect!

Sorry didn't mean to seem negative about consoles as what I was actually diving at was why can't everyone have the same access to the breath taking range of features Skyrim is able to support on both PC and console?

I keep wanting to share my new mod discoveries with my console playing mates but they cannot join in the fun so I only wish Bethesda could do something about it.

THe reason there are no mods on consoles is because microsoft and sony would charge money for each and every one of them, "So we are gonna charge $5 for the cloaks, $10 for the multiple followers, oh and that mod that lets you go to province of ________ that will be $30"

Languishing in...Vanilla Hell? Even as I have both PC and Xbox versions, I don't feel like the console version is THAT bad in its natural limitations. :p But I do see your broader point.

I have taken great advantage of console commands and mods (borrowed and self-written) to have the fun I want in Skyrim on PC. And some things seem like they'd be easier to implement on the consoles on down the road. I myself have a gaming desktop, so the issue of lack of mobility is the same for me as it is with my Xbox. I'll say that I've not had the same problems on PC with freezing and all that as I have on the console, but that's something that just will likely need to be addressed by Beth. What makes me the most happy aside from the goofy mods I've used is the ability to take HD screenshots. It's a simple thing that gives me great joy.

I guess all of this rambling is to say that I know I am quite lucky to have both versions and while the mods are definitely great fun on PC, they're by no means the only way to enjoy the game. I know that's not what the OP is saying, however. I just think that console users are similarly compelled to become more creative in their approaches to the game, what with combination outfits, armors and other such uses of available in-game material to make new things. It's certainly necessary for me when I go back to my Xbox files!
