Can't seem to progress further

Hi, I've been playing non-stop since I bought this the other night, I've got to level 12 and I'm stuck dead in my tracks. I believe, due to a bug on the companions campaign I cannot continue them quests and am not a werewolf . I decided to bite the bullet and keep playing around this however the main quests I have left to do are as follows: Innocence Lost, Joining the Stormcloaks, Family Heirloom, Retrieve Nettlebone and The Way of The Voice. Miscellaneous quests include: Visit the Shrine of Azura and Investigate the Bards college. I feel like I have done everything I can for Whiterun however everywhere I go I am either killed by a dragon, I can't get to the greybeards without dieing up the mountain, what do I do? Someone please tell me what is best for me, I can't seem to find anything to kill to level up and I can't seem to complete any quests now without leveling up? I must look like a right penis for this message but I like the game and its incredibly frustrating thinking I can't progress because of a bug. Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

Man, that totally sucks, Tat. And I thought my system freezes while trying to go through certain doors was aggravating. If you don't mind, and since you're "only" at level 12, would you consider starting the game over? Know it sounds drastic, but perhaps that's a way to hopefully avoid the bugs with another play through. Knowing this community, I'm sure there's at least one member who probably has the right answer. Alas, 'tis not me. Good luck though!

Skyrim is a very open game in terms of what you can do to level. My Archer got through her first 20 levels without doing a single guild quest, and was only up to Throat of the World as well. Mostly I leveled her by doing lots of hunting and exploring, and bounty quests.

Regarding Dragons, do you fast travel much? If you do, try not to use it so often, or, alternatively, save your game prior to fast traveling. If a Dragon shows up at your destination you can reload and choose another destination populated with guards. Usually the Dragon will show up there and you can use the guards to help you kill the Dragon and then fast travel to your ultimate destination.

If you post what your specific problem is with your current Companion quest someone may be able to help you get past whatever the problem is. Regarding the climb to High Hrothgar, you can avoid the Troll all together by rock climbing around its encounter area to avoid it.

Just putting it out there...but have you ever used the carriage?!

It's near the stables of whiterun, gets you to any major city in skyrim. And i know that you'll find many quests in each city.

The only thing that should be any challenge on the 7000 steps is the frost troll. There are three options to deal with this: 1) sneak by on the very left of the mountain, keeping out of his view, and avoid falling off the mountain 2) since fire is his big weakness, load up with fire scrolls, use the Flames spell and any other fire-related goodies (staff of flames etc) you can get. Hit him with fire at every chance, run away to recharge and then hit him again 3) get a follower who can attack and distract him while you use option 2

as for the troll on the way to the greybeards you can just run past it, when it does a power attack it slows right down leaving you time to get some space between you and the troll. i know how it feels my 1st play i got messed up by that very same troll. after that it should be a clear road to the greybeards as for lvlving up pop in to any inn that you past and ask them for work, they should give you "kill the bandit leader" quest.
how is the companions quest line stopping you as well ?

Hi, thanks for all the help some of it has been very useful. I have now realised I'm infected with Vampirism and I think it may not be the bug at all, as I am a Vampire I doubt they can continue as they need to turn me into a Werewolf. I have been moving to other citys in the meantime and have found there to be a lot more to do than I had thought, on games like this I normally like to finish all available missions/quests at an area before moving on however it seems this game is different. The carriage is something I had forgotten about and I will use that today, I have been feeding on villagers and am not sure whether to keep my vampire and join the dark brotherhood along with the thieves guild and make a new account for the other path or to cure my character and continue on as planned. Other than that thanks for all your comments again, you've kept me motivated

well you can be turned into a werewolf when you are a vampire it is one of the ways to cure being a vampire if you wait too long to cure the disease so that should not be the issue. Elaberate on where you are in the companions quest line to see if we can help on that, if you would like to be werewolf or not be a vampire and want to contiure tha questline.

Ok you'll have to forgive me I'm not currently on the game but, I've completed the quest with 'Farkas' or whatever his name was, where he turns into the wolf, this dungeon is cleared and I've been back and spoke to the companions. I assumed I was already on a companion quest, a few hours later I realised there was not one currently listed, then I spoke to the companions in Whiterun and asked for work they told me I was already running an errand for Skor or Skior or Skjior lol So I looked up the next step on that quest and it said to meet him at night by the 'Hidden Entrance' which I have been to day and night and searched everywhere for him, I cannot find him and have been told this is a common bug. However, I may be mistaken, and I hope I am wrong!

It's not a common bug. Without going into too much detail, Skjor's notorious bug has to do with him showing up when he shouldn't not vice versa.

The thing about the Companions is that they actually do leave Whiterun. If you travel back and forth in Skyrim often enough instead of fast traveling you will eventually meet some of them on the road. I've long suspected, but have never had the opportunity to confirm, that when Companions can't be found in or around Jorrvaskr and have apparently vanished (Aela has bee known to do this) they are actually stuck somewhere else in Skyrim (and unless they are marked unkillable because they are still a quest giver, they may even have been killed in the wilderness).

Ok, I found a fix for this, at least on someone else's issue with it. They attacked him, and lured him outside, then once he was over near the underforge the sheathed their weapon and he invited them in. Basically you just have to find a way to get him outside and near the underforge. If you can't do it you might have to reload an earlier save.

I've gone back to where I was before I went on a vampire feeding spree and I've found him! He is in Jorvaska and he says I'm already ona job for him and to get to it however I'm a hundred percent sure one is not listed? I've now done the quest to meet the greybeards and I may try luring skjor to the entrance now thanks

The quests I have listed apart from the ones I have accumulated since I moved on are as follows:
Innocence Lost
Joining the Stormcloaks
Family Heirloom
The Blessings of Nature
Miscellaneous; Visit the college of Winterhold, Visit the Shrine of Azura, Investigate the Bards College and Kill the bandit leader at Stony Creek Cave.

I'm now making good progress on my main quest line now though and have been moving around on the carriage I can safely say I am once more entertained thanks to you lot

Family Heirloom is the radiant companion quest in your list. Try to do that one and see if everything sorts itself out.

Hi I have completed Family Heirloom, I feel like a right idiot, I assumed that I was attempting this quest before as I could not continue my companion quests and it turns out it was required for them. But I am now a werewolf feasting on the silver hand, I'm killing more dragons and travelling everywhere so thanks alot guys I'm right back on track!

glad to hear it. Radiant quests can cause those issues. If you want to also be a part of the DB do the innocence lost. If you want to destroy the DB you also have to do that quest. If you want to avoid the DB then just leave it alone.
