Does it matter?

Dark Assassin

Obsessed with the aldmeri dominion
Hey guys..My brother just yelled at me yesterday for finishing Whiterun at lvl 4. I got to thinking over night: Does this really affect my over all fighting? My brother was lvl 20 when he finished and now he's got full deadric armor and dragonbone weapons. Im just a little worried that It will affect my fight with alduin (and other battles that lead up to him)

NO... I think is the safe answer to your concern. If you feel particularly overwhelmed, you can either grind and kickass on the next fight or turn down the difficulty. But that's just me though, I'm just as curious as you are on the opinions of those who've played the game for the umpteenth time on Legendary.

The game(kinda) scales with your level. The main story is actually kind of set up for a lower level character, it's meant for you to get better as you go through it so that you can handle the upcoming challenge. If you take the time to grind your level up beforehand to make it easier then guess what, most of the enemies have leveled also! Set your own pace, if you get out of whiterun at level 4 then that's great! If you finished up at level 46? Awesome! The major enemies have leveled with you, so that it's not boring.

Simply play the game, at your own pace. If you get to a part that is too difficult, then walk away, do side quests, grind skills, whatever you want! Then come back in a few levels. The Main storyline flows fairly smoothly no matter what level you are, and don't worry about Alduin, by the time you get there, you'll be ready.

You are very welcome, don't worry, almost all of my characters have a dragon under their belt before level 5. Also, Alduin is a pushover, so no worries there.;)

Actually I feel it easier at higher levels. Sometimes I do mainstory first, like no levels at all. Now I did it about level 80 and it was much easier.

enemies don't level with you level-for-level. Most of the major enemies do so in 10-20 level increments I believe. So at certain levels it will be easier or harder depending on whether they just upped the ante, or if they have been this good for a little while. Being a level 80 character you also probably have gear enchanted and/or suited to your playstyle as well as more perks. It is easier, but not so much so that it affects the experience drastically.(at least in my experience)

Thats why I someties use
  • Use basic low level fur or leather armor(Not smithing)
  • Use basic low level bows (No smithing, It take 5 shots to kill Ice troll while sneaking. I play legendary)
  • Reset skill to making those legendary
  • Level up skill again, but wont add perkspoints

This post is 100% PERFECT!! Red is right. Just play at your own pace, and don't worry too much about your level. I'd worry more about your abilities (i.e. have you chosen the right build, are you geared well enough, etc.) The game scales very well with your level. I will say this though: To me, the higher my level got, the easier the main story got....so easy that it made it somewhat anti-climatic for me, but still fun.

On every character I make, I avoid the main quest for as long as possible, and I get to at least level 40 before I move on to the main quest. As a result: I get all Draugr Deathlords and Scourges, but Alduin wasn't that tough at all for me. It actually gets easier as you level, in my opinion. Especially once you get settled in with your favorite equipment, weapons, spells, ways to fight, etc :) But it's really up to you! I choose to wait because I love doing guilds and everything FIRST, but many people prefer it the other way around, but it's all up to the player :)

Also worth noting that mobs don't level past early 50s, so at level 80 you're just more EVERYTHING then they are!
