Ebony Warrior fight broke my entire build and I don't know what went wrong

I'm level 81 on my current playthrough and decided to finally hunt down the Ebony Warrior since I've never actually fought him before. Got absolutely demolished. Like, not even close. I'm running a pretty standard two-handed heavy armor setup with decent perks in both trees, and this guy just... walked through everything I threw at him.

I know he scales to your level but I'm wondering if there's something specific about his AI or resistances that I'm missing? He seemed to tank my power attacks way harder than dragons do, and his own hits were one-shotting me even with like 75% damage reduction from my armor. Is this just a "you need to cheese it with shouts or summons" situation or am I genuinely undergeared at 81?

Also curious if anyone's actually beaten him straight up without going full tryhard mode. What was your build like?

The Ebony Warrior is legitimately one of the hardest encounters in the base game, so don't feel too bad. He's got perks across like five different trees and uses them way more efficiently than any NPC you've fought before - he's not just a scaled-up bandit.

The one-shot thing is probably because he's stacking perks like Savage Strike and Devastating Blow on top of his damage, and those ignore a chunk of your armor rating. At 75% damage reduction you're still taking a solid hit. He also carries a weapon that scales with his skill level, so at 81 he's swinging around something nasty.

What perks do you actually have in Two-Handed and Heavy Armor? Like, are you running Impact, Conditioning, the armor matching bonus? Because if you're light on defensive perks he'll just walk through you. Also - and this sounds dumb but matters - what's your actual health pool? I've seen people get wrecked by him because they're at like 300 HP thinking armor does all the work.

The "cheese it" route (summons, Mayhem spell, Paralyze shout) works but honestly if your build is solid it shouldn't be necessary. I beat him on my Legendary two-hander at 79 but I had basically every perk in both trees and like 450 health. Took forever, mostly just blocking and waiting for openings. Restoration loop would trivialize it but that's a whole different thing.
