Elder scrolls MMO announced!

I wonder if the MMO will limit the amount of modding that PC gamers do on Elder Scrolls games. I know mods and addons are a big part of the Elder Scroll PC enviroment but I cant see an MMO allowing the sort of game changing mods (killing kids, marrying whoever you want, spawning creatures etc.) that people like to do.

On a single player game these mods hurt nobody, but on an MMO, they could affect multiple players.

You can't do mods in an MMORPG. You would have to be able to edit the server side and there's no way any MMORPG pubisher is going to allow that (and I wouldn't touch an MMORPG with a 100 foot pole published by any game producer stupid enough to allow it).

I really want this to be an awesome game but It just won't be, you will have all the idiots from wow or any other mmo being, well idiots. I played wow and the community is what made me quit in the end. And if they add any microtransaction boulderdash well you might as well condemn it to the scrap heap

just my opinion on this

Considering it is PC only (which cuts into profits) and unmodable, I'd imagine that, in keeping with what seems to be the "two projects at once" theme they have going, a bunch of them are sitting in a room working out ideas for TES VI as we speak.

I have a feeling this MMO will have that "pay for the good stuff" mechanic you find in Free-to-play games. I may juts wait for #6.

This is worrying news, one of Bethesda's best features is their solo games though maybe it will be alright

This does worry me. As both of my roommates badger me all the time to play their various MMOs. And I mean various, must get bloody expensive. The cute thing is that they view games like the Elder Scrolls series as inferior because of the lack of player to player interaction. I almost laughed when my roommate said I needed to play a good game, instead of wasting my time on Oblivion and Skyrim.

If my roommates are anything like the people who frequent MMOs, I'll be staying away from this.

Have you guys seen the new teaser and screenshots for Elders Scrolls Online MMO? I'm not excited for it....at all. If you see the screenshots of it, it looks like a generic MMO. It has potential it really does but..eh.

Haven't seen it, where are they at? I'll have to check it out when I get home. I pretty much feel the same about it already

For the worker bees:

One picture may be worth a thousand words, but even that isn’t enough to convey the breadth of ZeniMax’s new MMO.

Yesterday you got a glimpse of Game Informer’s June cover story, Elder Scrolls Online. Today, we give you an exclusive first look at what the game will look like in action.

What’s going on here?
In this image, you can see a couple player characters battling some Storm Atronachs. Storm Atronach are a species of daedra (divine creatures that come from magical dimensions) that are constructed from stone and held together by magic. The most powerful of all the atronachs, Storm Atronach are immune to normal weapons and shock attacks, are resistant to poisons, and can reflect spells back at their caster.

Is that all?
Behind the battle is a series of daedric ruins. These great towers were built long ago by an ancient race of people, but they’re not the only landmarks players will discover throughout their journey. As players travel through Skyrim, Morrowind, Cyrodiil, and the rest of Tamriel they will encounter various dwarven ruins, ancient nordic tombs, decayed dwemer buildings, and many other ancient locales, some of which players may have discovered in previous Elder Scrolls games.

I still want more!
We know you do, but that’s all for today. If you missed it, Elder Scrolls Online’s first teaser trailer released earlier today, and check back next week for more exclusive Elder Scrolls content.

Not sure how to embed that one without options to do so. Doesn't show anything though, just a voiceover, no gameplay.

Just watched the teaser trailer. Not impressed. They think they are being clever, 'not from one hero, but from many'. YAWN. Excuse me, gonna watch the Skyrim trailers to get the fail out of my eyes.

....and my guess is it will be something like pay to play if you want the entire landmass unlocked, like skyrim for example will be free to play but if you want more you'll have to pay up....
What on earth makes you think any of the content will be free? That's not the business model for MMORPGs. The traditional model is pay for the game, which has the first month's subscription fee rolled into the purchase price and then you pay every month or you get access to nothing.

and that my friend is precisely what'll ruin the game.
Guild wars manages to make an awesome mmorpg with only making you pay once and not monthly.

But they just shouldn't make it an mmorpg, keep it the single player rpg that it is!

*gasp*

Tons of MMORPGs are "Free to Play" ... but are microtransaction driven. Pay for outfits, stat boosts, resets, mounts, housing, vending, etc. A month-to-month doesn't work for all games, you actually see quite a few of the older MMOs have CHANGED to FTP with microtransactions.

The game itself is free, but if you want to excel, you'll pay for it.

"The magazine reports that the game will span “across the entire land of Tamriel, from Elsweyr to Skyrim and everywhere in between,” featuring solo play, cooperative dungeons and player-versus-player fighting."

Wooh hold the phone! Cooperative Dungeons and Player-Versus-player in an MMO?!?! That sounds Sooooo Inivative! Like, umm.. Yeah Sooo neat and New! Maybe it will be all in Third person with skills on a tool bar as well. Yeah... doesn't sound like any MMO I've ever heard of. I'm ...really.. ..umm.. yeah....
